Re: Twice now the Analog audio out has become degraded

Can you post a closeup pic of your current analog IO board?

I had one on an older MiSTer, but my current one doesn’t have one for me to look at. I may have some ideas. (I design analog audio and synthesis gear). Worth a shot anyway.

Re: Would Love to See More Classic Arcade Cores

The Bagman / Le Bagnard games would be cool too! I just got a Super Bagman arcade PCB. Needs a touch of work, but looking forward to it. Both Bagman and Super Bagman are already available on MiSTer. I'm an idiot!!! Where have I been?!?! Mine is even up to date. Thanks! I haven't been playing on the MiSTer for a bit due to too many house ...

I don't currently have a use for this, but just wanted to say this is so cool! My exposure to Sparcs was shell accounts on various early ISPs. :geek: One of the cooler times in computer history was when Sparcs, Alphas and Indigos were the cool things! I used to go to the huge computer fairs at the University of Washington back then, and it was so f...

I would love to have Thunderforce AC on the MiSTer and Pocket. I was just looking at C2 hardware actually. ;)

Edit: I couldn't wait. Just grabbed a C2 board with Thunderforce AC on it. There's one more on ebay for a decent price if anyone needs one.

Mine too, thanks! Picked up a few other boards as well while I was at it. :D I threw some wild offers out, and some of them came back accepted. More than I thought, so I spent a bit more than I had in mind, but I think this is going to be a lot of fun. :) I design/build analog synthesizers and audio PCBs, etc. and have been feeling a little bit bur...

Re: Air Buster

Went a little crazy. Ordered a working board too because I couldn't pass up the price, and my offer was accepted for a little less even. So I'll have a working board to compare the semi-working board to. Got in touch with Jotego, and I will be donating the repaired board for future FPGA conversion. No ETA, but no rush either. It will just be nice t...

Well, it arrived. Waiting for my JAMMA gear to show up for testing. (already have tons of test equipment for my other hobby/side-job) While I was waiting I went over the photos of the board again, and already found what may be the problem. There appear to be two traces scraped off from the corner of the Kaneko Pandora VDP chip. That may be the caus...

I know this is a bit of a niche game, but it's one of my favorites. I managed to grab a partially working arcade board for it, and will begin repair work on it soon. Once it's properly working, I'll inquire with some Arcade core devs to see if they have any interest in working with it. I have the ability to troubleshoot the board, but not any FPGA ...

Astrocade

Just wanted to thank Macro for working on the Arcade Astrocade core. While I haven't had a chance to try it out lately, the Astrocade is one of my all time favorites. (I'm 47, and the Astrocade is my first experience with video games (I was 2 or 3 when I first started playing on it.)) I still get my dad to play some of the Astrocade games with me o...

Re: GRS Trackball

I am using the GRS Trackball (non-pro) with MiSTer, as well, in a new combo Tron stick/spinner & trackball panel I built. Centipede 800%? The trackball works fine for Centipede, though as I think was mentioned in another thread or forum, I really think an 800% setting would be useful. Even at 400%, it feels a bit slow for me. Missile Command I...

Re: Any way to control Forgotten Worlds better?

I use the ThunderStick spinners in my Arcade Control setup. They work perfectly for Forgotten Worlds, Tempest, Bally Astrocade games, etc. I haven't figured out a good calibration for Irritating Maze yet, so that would be one game that's a bit off on them. Everything else I've thrown at them works great though! I'd recommend any products from them....

I got mine working perfectly on the MiSTer as well. XInput, and a couple of minor INI changes. I did run the config utility on Windows first to set the buttons up. Then plugged it into the MiSTer, and then made INI changes.

Re: FPGA Sega Dreamcast?

So, no one talking about this here? FPGA Sega Dreamcast | Work has begun! :o Why is this here if it's not MiSTer related? I don't see a problem with it. It's FPGA / Console discussion. It probably won't apply to the current iteration of the DE10 based MiSTer, but it's still ok to talk about similar technologies I would think. It's just one thread,...

I would love to see this game on the MiSTer. That said, you can grab it on the Switch if you have one. It's the arcade version, the emulation is excellent for software, there are tons of additional options, etc. Definitely a good option while waiting for it anyway.

Re: Are You Going to Re-Configure Your MiSTer Setup for Dual RAM?

I have some RAM modules laying around anyway, so definitely going to pop another in my main MiSTer. No reason not to. I'm not the biggest fan of MK exactly, but may as well. I remember when the first TMS CPU based systems were getting developed for MAME. It took quite a while, required higher spec PC hardware, and IIRC, the development was a bit tr...

Re: Dual SDRAM 128MB Issues

Silly question, but it comes up occasionally, (and also happened to me once on one of my builds). Are the pins all aligned correctly? I design PCBs, work with all manner of board interconnects, and I still managed to misalign my SDRAM module on one build I did. Easy to rule this out anyway. :)

Re: FPGA Sega Dreamcast?

Dreamcast is well beyond DE10 Nano capabilities..it's a 128 BIT system more close to the 128BIT PS2 specs than 32 BIT PS1/Saturn. I'm not even 100% sure we'll get a fully functional N64 core. But I hope I'm wrong. The SH4 IIRC is 32 bit RISC. The PowerVR IC is broken down internally. I can’t remember exact tile rendering details as it’s been a lon...

The Amiga has a pretty good Port. So you could play it on the core.

Thanks! I actually have other ways to play the arcade version, but was more just curious about the hardware itself. I keep meaning to search around more, but so far whenever I think about it, I'm at work, and most game-related sites are blocked here by category.

Yeah, I saw that page. Other than CPU config, there seemed to be a lot of similarities. Just curious though. I'll do more searching, just thought I'd ask. I always found the game to be pretty fun (if a bit repetitive).

Out of curiosity, does Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters run on this hardware more or less? I know it uses two 68000s, but the rest of the ICs look fairly similar. I haven't found much information other than some brief overviews.

Got two spinners working. I just replaced my TurboTwists with GRS Spinners. Works on both sides now. However, the axes are reversed. Just for Astrocade. Other spinner/pot cores see them correctly. I'm still trying to figure this out, and it's possible that I can flip them using the configuration program for the spinners (maybe). However, if anyone ...

Just thought I'd chime in. I've heard other people say that they've had a bad taste after correspondence with NG.DEV. In my case, I got a pretty friendly response when I made an inquiry a couple of years ago. I was looking to get a copy of Gunlord somehow. Popped in the GRS spinners (Button Hole 2 type), connected them to a PC, set one to PID 1 and the second to PID2. Both set for X Axis. Saved. Plugged them into the MiSTer. I had to set the VID/PID to 0xFFFF Both work perfectly in Forgotten Worlds, Bally Astrocade (though the axis is backwards in Astrocade) and will try more ASAP. These spinners are...

Re: What Is the Minimum Number of Buttons Needed for Most Arcade Cores?

I typically build with six main control buttons. That covers the most ground IMO. Then I have a Start / Coin button for each player, and a menu button when possible. (sometimes more, but never less) I would say the ABSOLUTE bare minimum would be to have four action buttons, but then you're ruling out quite a few games, and not all of them are fight...

Yeah, I tried setting their IDs. However, that was on the original setup using the OptiWiz controller. I'm not sure if I tried again after I swapped to the Ipac2. I'll give it a try while I'm waiting for the GRS ones to arrive. If they all work, I feel another controller build coming on. :)
