Re: MiSTer Static Backgound Disappeared

Instead of starting a new thread, I have an opposite problem. I ONLY have the static and am trying to get Ranny Snice's wallpapers back! I have Ranny Snice's fantastic backgrounds enabled in update all. They seem to update. At some point I probably messed with adding the Amiga monitor menu.png (or filename close to that) which was nice but I liked ...

Re: MiSTer Specific Raspberry Pi 4 vs 5 Questions?

I get it that a pi 5 vs a pi 4 may be overkill in some scenarios, but as prices fluctuate I currently see negligible $ differences for the pi4 and pi5. So the question may be is a pi4 worth it with current pi 5 prices, or are there other factors to consider other than speed for the majority of projects such as 3.5 mm I/O functionality etc. I could ...

MiSTer Specific Raspberry Pi 4 vs 5 Questions?

Though tenuously related, my (and others') overall MiSTer setup would benefit from hardware info/tech discussion here. I run RetroNAS, and have toggled between a Raspberry Pi 3B and an old laptop. The pi3 is the current win. I am looking to buy a pi 4 or 5 in Oct 2024 (near November) with the following plans and options. My current retronas pi3 cou...

Interestingly, it is now at the hour past point of pre-orders and it is not sold out. I passed on it and am wondering if the market for Analogue is cooling down due to other options now.

Re: Recommended Joysticks for Different Cores

If you can find them, the RetroR joysticks have models with 4-8 buttons, and are available in USB versions — I'm not finding 'RetroR' joysticks, but figuring there can't be too many companies making Competition Pro style joysticks now (and even less so with an uppercase 'R' in the name), so maybe you meant this: 'ArcadeR' joysticks? I see them ove...

Re: Analogue 3D is available to preorder

I was thinking the same. IF the 'spiritualized' cores magically show up one day, I might bite. A huge cost savings from a Retrotink 4K for specific case uses. I hope to get a Retrotink 4K one day for all the other features though.

That 8bitdo controller looks sweet! The 3d... I think I will sit this one out. I'm fine with my OG 64, and especially with the MiSTer core.

Hope others get to enjoy this though.

It is being worked on, https://github.com/Slamy/CDi_MiSTer I LOVE IT!! Re: USB vs Jamma versatility: In some scenarios, is Jamma even worth it??

There are a zillion Raspberry Pi's, Arduino's and ESP32's out there with game controls wired directly into their GPIO pins. DE-10 Nano's have those same GPIO pins… all that would be needed to close the loop would be pinout conventions and arcade core support. Now that I wrap my head around the idea that Mistercade and Jamma solutions are basically...

Re: Video Idea: Comparison of JAMMA Hardware Options

One might argue that two misters with their own distinct inis for each, setup with a common network mount for cores and games is the way. Sure, when budget is no matter, multiple MiSTers is always nice. If buying extra addons for arcade setups, Sanwa parts, etc, it can add up. I did check out RetroRGB's older stream to see Antonio's Jamma adapter ...

Would love to see Bob or MLiG do a whole thing on this subject. Bob of RetroRGB has already cov...

Re: Simple question for Mister-in-an-Arcade-Cabinet layout: six or eight?

I ultimately chose the 8 button layout- 7 looks odd to me + asymmetrical and I think if you are going that far with it, 8 would be better. I think the main deciding factor was needing the Neo Geo 4 buttons in a row as opposed to the Neo Geo CD pad layout. Shoulder/trigger mappings for Saturn, etc make sense. I have one broken cabinet lock so I may ...

Simple question for Mister-in-an-Arcade-Cabinet layout: six or eight?

Knowing all we know now with available Mister cores in Summer 2024, if you were to design (or retrofit) an arcade cabinet for a MiSTer setup... I'll presume ONE given of it being a 2 player arcade cabinet: Would you do a 6-button or 8-button layout? If there are no 8-button arcade games, what are the pros and cons of having the two extra buttons or...

Where to get CRT Graphite coatings like AquaDag or 'ElectroDag'?

When repairing some CRTs and arcade monitors for Mister setups, sometimes the graphite paint on the back of the tube is flaking off. I've seen videos of people talk about products like: Ted Pella 16056 Carbon Conductive Paint, DAG-T-502, 30g AquaDag Colloidal Graphite Coating yet I do not see these commonly found (ok, coating CRTs is very niche) an...

Just a quick update - Beware to all: I flashed both dongles to update their SEPARATE firmwares (following the instructions and bricking warnings to a T) and they BOTH bricked. More problems were happening so the amount of time spent isn't worth it anymore. I'm reinstalling. Re: RetroNAS - Reinstall or is there an easier way

I always format fresh drives because I personally don't like any factory software on them. Even if I wasn't like that, I think the storage drive one uses with RetroNAS HAS to be formatted entirely during setup anyway. I did run checkdisk (from Debian Linux) on it and it displayed that there were no errors. Though my PC now can access the drive and ...
