Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
Thanks for all the analysis and comments. The emulated walk sound is pretty much what JOpdorp made, so please do not praise the update for that. What did get into update all is the envelope generator on the syntesize and the synthesized sound effects. Unfortunately, I was not able to reply the last week because I have been travelling due to a death...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
I took these samples from an old MAME sample set, from the time when MAME used samples instead of simulating the analogue sounds. I think I faded out the end and maybe faded in the start so that both ends didn't click. Can't remember if I did anything else besides cropping. Wow, I did not expect an answer so soon! Do you know how long ago that was...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
Thanks a lot for the positive feedback, it really helps me to stick with this. Edit: I just tried the new version and it is sounding a lot better! Jumping over the barrels and dying has crackles in the sound. I assume these are samples. Maybe the samples can be cleaned up in Audacity. Au contraire, you are probalby right: In my previous post, I was...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
Just to let you know I am still working on this. The main thing I had to find out how hard it is to correctly add signed and unsigned numbers of different width in Verilog (<troll>VHDL is much better: if it compiles, it works correctly</troll>). You may give this a try: https://github.com/pvanschendel/Arcade-DonkeyKong_MiSTer/blob/Improve_synthesiz...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
So anyways, it took some time to get back, because I rather wanted to reply with some good news (in the form of an .rbf). This is not yet so far, but the good news is that I still believe this can be fixed. Changed the Digital Signal Generator clock speed, and now the duration of these sounds is then exactly the same as in your recording. However, ...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
First of all, thanks for pointing out that the FPGA sound is wrong, you convinced me. I an quite a Noob to Arcade hardware (professional EE though), and (FPGA) emulation is already quite old. So I was excited that I could contribute to this very Video game history relevant core. The challenge is my main motivation, the pressure of having to satisfy...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
sorry submitted previous early by accident The side-edge connector on of the TKG4 board has two audio outputs: Monitor out (brown path) and Speaker out (not colored, right next to the brown path), I think the monitor out path is normally connected (for upright cabinets ?, controlled by switch SW2). This signal is again connected to another amplifie...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
dkong.drawio.png I listend and looked at the audio you sent, and there is obviously some things that could be improved: 1. The purple "envelope generator" path for the DAC is missing in the FPGA, which is present in Mame 2. The yellow path with second order low-pass is missing in the DAC output 3. Most of the analog effects are still sto...

Re: The C64 Maxi
Sorry, I missed your posts asking for the map. One wonders why I did not just post them right then and there, when I mentioned them... You find the keyboard map and a map for "The C64 Joystick" attached. It is updated to work with the current C64 core. The arrow left would work in the original mapping, but I remapped the arrow left to F12...

Re: Dynamic VHD Support? -- Plan of use
The one disadvantage of the proposed zip solution is that you cannot put too many large, but empty, unzipped vhd files on your USB drive, and you would loose data if you unzipped them before mounting, but did not zip them again after un-mounting. I understand that adding complexity is not good. I mainly did this because I had to disappoint fynnsbit...

Re: Dynamic VHD Support? -- Plan of use
I had a look at it, and it seems to be possible: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/issues/395 Is the bios defaulting to flat and can that be changed to "growing"? You still need to set the (maximum) capacity of the VHD when you create it, this is the capacity that the AO486 sees. As soon as you create it, you get a one-time file...

Re: C64 mini keyboard as a MiSTer Commodore core keyboard
If you are going to get a second system to take apart, it is quite easy to convert the C64 maxi to a USB keyboard.

Re: The C64 Maxi
I bought one, and soldered a socket to a USB cable (Würth WR-WTB, 2 mm pitch, https://www.mouser.ch/ProductDetail/Wurth-Elektronik/620104131822?qs=ZtY9WdtwX57A7D%2FbILyVEQ%3D%3D), I guess this is not the type that was originally used, but it fits). This way, you can plug the connector from the keyboard to the cable, and keep The C64 Maxi in working...

Re: More Configuration Bits?
If you have looked at the code headers, you will see that each of these files was written by a different author for a different project, so you can expect that some detective work is in order to understand what is going on. Considering the animosity between differernt HDLs, it is amazing that it is relatively easy to connect code written in differe...
