I'd like it to appear earlier in the list before Atari ST.

Rumours are that this was the exact reason for the naming in the first place, to gets ads in old computer mags listed up before those for Apple and Atari :)

Re: Implement FPU for minimig

Hello, I have just one question to ask. How difficult would it be to implement FPU into miniming core? How come such feature were not implemented already? Implementing a sort of FPU wouldn’t be so hard, but implementing an feature complete 040 FPU or better yet a full featured 68882 is another story. The main problem (once functions are implemente...

Isn’t it obvious that you should use the AROS kickstart instead of the AmigaOS 3.1 kickstart? It’s been a few years, but yes, I ran AROS/68k on MiSTer for a while.

Re: AmigaVision/MegaAGS 2023.04.05 Released!

3.2 kickstarts (and 3.1.4, and even old CBM 3.1 for A4000T) come without workbench.library and icon.library, due to lack of space in the 512kB ROM. Instead the kickstart will look for those on any attached filesystem (old 3.1 and 3.1.4 kickstarts come with “stub” versions that do it, 3.2 uses the System-Startup component that generally scans file s...

Re: Any Way to Limit 68020 Speed?

It’s not really 68EC020 anymore when it handles hundreds of MB with RAM. 32 bit processor = 4gb of memory... So, hundred of MB? Easy... Not with a 68EC020 that only has 24 bit address bus, it can only address 16MB. Or in case of Amiga, just 8MB due to signed address space, and pointers by design only using posivtive addresses)… and in case of real...

This really makes me cringe - only x86 PCs have (had) BIOS.

Building the Linux Kernel

I finally got around to upgrade my MiSTer from old 4.19 to latest with 5.15.1, and everything works as intended. Once upon a time I made a docerfile for building the 4.19 kernel, so I could build the kernel with the features I need, this is of course way outdated now, but I haven't really found "the recipy" for how to the current kernel i...

Re: Next Generation FPGA Hardware's Potential for Existing MiSTer Cores?

Stuff I sort of miss… :)

- 68882 for TG68 cores
- 56k DSP
- Minimig RTA (AHI)
- virtual ethernet connection in the core to the Linux side, not just serial.
- codec for mpeg-1, mp3, mpeg-2/h262, mpeg-4/h264 etc (MHI, mpeg.library mm)
- crypto/TLS accellerator (speed up AmiSSL)

Re: Vampire V4 core for MiSTer Real?

Gunnar is not the one calling the V4 a Vampire, the word "vampire" was rarely, if ever, used in any official advertising.

http://www.apollo-computer.com/v4standalone.php

V is not for “Vampire”, it is more “version”.

Re: Vampire V4 core for MiSTer Real?

Another thing that Gunnar offered in 2017 (I think) was that any manufacturer could license the AC68080 core for free, but it would be limited to slow 68060 speeds until user/vendor paid for a “proper” license. Stangely, apparently noone was interested in this offer.

Re: Vampire V4 core for MiSTer Real?

Well, Gunnar has always denied that blitter is done in “software”. But that just illustrates the main problem with apollo core(s) - unlike “real” Amiga architecture which always was quite open and information available, apollo core is rather the exact opposite. Btw, there never is any “Vampire V4” - Vampire is Majsta’s trademark, only his cards are...

Yes, keep as much as possible “close" to the CPU and fast ram, especially I/O. Ideally, when RTG is used, the FPGA should have almost no use :)

Re: Lets actually try Hybrid Emulation

Personally, I've been using my old minimig v1.1 quite a lot lately, just wish there was a way to attach 8MB of fastram to that 68SEC000... (in my mind, a thin pcb holding the ram, with a square opening for the 68sec000, and solder points along the inner edge of the opening) My 1.1 has stacked RAM chips for 4MB. I bought it that way, but I know 4mb...

Re: Amiga 68030/40?

In context of Amiga, FPGA is great for implementing the chipset, and awesome for software that depend on the native Amiga chips. And that’s it. Once you leave the chipset behind and fully go P96 and (to a degree) AHI, software emulation is just better. Yes, with software emulation, “everything” happens sequential and not in parallel, but that is al...

Re: Pipeline Minigame in Oil Imperium - unable to control mouse

What is a “frame” in this context? Amiga displays are written line by line directly to screen, and what’s to be written to a line may change even after the first lines have already been written. Of course, with emulation, writing lines directly to hardware may not be an option and you may have to finish writing a whole screen before it can be sent ...

I don't know if they have done anything to the FPGA cores though... https://www.minimig.ca Personally, I've been us...

No need for ARM, there’s the FPGA and it can run another 68k core for the Minimig firmware, take care of I/O, menus etc. This is how it works on the TC64 already :)

I have two Vampire cards that haven’t received significant updates for years, and compatibility issues are plenty. If I could easily just swap out 68080 and "SAGA" on those with tg68 and Minimig, I’d use them a lot more.

Re: FPU for the MiSTer Minimig core

TG68 doesn’t support FPU, so software emulation aka FEMU it is (and FEMU already works). You first need a way to execute native ARM code from the Amiga side, and then replace the math lib stuff in FEMU with ARM code. And how the RAM access would be taken care of, I don’t know.
