Re: SparcStation Core
Not sure if this topic is still alive but I have just found it, and it got me super excited! I have an ML605 virtex 6 development board that seems as the next step above the SP605. Does anyone think its possible to run the Sparcstation 5/20 on it? If yes, how should I proceed to change the relevant stuff to be able to convert to the Virtex 6. Than...

Re: SparcStation Core
@kconger, @kevind I've found the problem. Some bug that I introduced in OpenBIOS when trying to optimise disk accesses, which broke CDROM with 2048 bytes. Boot.rom need to be updated. https://github.com/Grabulosaure/ss_openbios http://temlib.org/pub/mister/SS/boot.rom Type "boot cdrom:d" on OpenBIOS prompt. It's quite slow. @Alkadian http...

Re: SparcStation Core
I have updated the SS5 core. https://github.com/Grabulosaure/ss http://temlib.org/pub/mister/SS/ss5.rbf - CDROM now works with Solaris (8), NextSTEP, Linux (RH). To mount the CD with Solaris, type : " mount -F hsfs -r /dev/dsk/c0t6d0s0 /cdrom", for old Linux, it's "/dev/scd0" It should be possible to test NextSTEP software by cr...

Re: SparcStation Core
I was able to get Solaris 8 connected over PPP. After modifying the Solaris PPP template files, I had to use this connect script on the MiSTer side: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=15634#p15634 . I think there is a way around this by modifying the chat script on the Solaris side, my PPP knowledge is very rusty. Here is a build of SS5 with t...

Re: SparcStation Core
I've updated the SS core, changed SCSI ID, and have briefly tested RedHat, Solaris 7, Solaris 8, SunOS, NextSTEP. I don't understand why it was necessary to change SCSI. http://temlib.org/pub/mister/SS/ss5.rbf http://temlib.org/pub/mister/SS/ss20.rbf It's better to reboot MiSTer when trying different OSes, probably a few missing register reset. Re: Possible image rotation to the analog output?
This is a know limitation of the scaler. When using the framebuffer mode, which is the case when rotating arcade cores, the scaler cannot downscale properly. - Latest changes, not yet applied on all cores, can do some form of vertical downscaling. It's not perfect as some lines are skipped, but at least the image should be complete. - Horizontal re...

That's interesting.
I'm trying to update low lag mode for better resolution switches and change multi-buffering to reduce latency.

Re: Thomson MO5/MO6
Excuse my dumbness but how do you enter the letter M in this core? It depends on the "Keyboard" option. MO6 computers had an AZERTY keyboard, and many symbol keys were different from the PC layout, like many of the home computers of that era. So there is several wrong options between having a layout that resemble the original computer, a...

I missed the release of this until it was updated today! Works quite nicely although I have some minor issues: * "Start" and "Select" appear to be reversed, even after I mapped them directly on the core. * Although it elected to use the analogue stick, the movement on screen appears to be digital. I don't know quite how analogu...

Looks like a memory bandwidth issue.
Can try to reduce console resolution and/or colour depth.
The scaler buffers are a bit too small.

Supporting wide resolution uses lots of memory in the FPGA, It's not really useful for most cores.

Re: Support for ultrawide resolution
@Crystal You need to reduce clock frequency : video_mode=2560,168,272,440,1080,1,3,34,230760 230MHz is far too high. For example the 2048x1536 mode uses a 209.318MHz clock (which is already beyond reasonable) Either try 50Hz modes. Or find a mode compatible with your screen but with reduced blanking, for example : 2560,48,32,80,1080,1,3,34,182460 T...

.N_DW(128),
.N_AW(28)

Re: Screen tearing after playing Zelda LTTP for multiple hours.
@Grabulosaure What I think is happening is that in some edge case 'o_ibuf0' and 'o_obuf0' become equal. The 'buf_next' function defaults to buffer 1 so when o_ibuf0 and o_obuf0 are equal then they both get stuck at buffer 1. I had to wait a long time for it to start tearing again but I could finally confirm with SignalTap that they are both stuck ...

Re: Screen tearing after playing Zelda LTTP for multiple hours.
@AtomicShroom I really have no idea on what could cause tearing after hours. The scaler continuously selects the latest updated frame. I've made a version of SNES with a "border" option which shows input video in the border of the scaled image. I'd be curious to know if the tearing is synchronised with the input video sliding : http://tem...

Re: Scaler won't downscale
This is a known problem. Actually a design limitation. - The scaler can be used to resize the video from the core (usually standard 220- 240 lines PAL/NTSC) to any resolution on the HDMI output (can be upscaled with polyphase or downscaled with linear). - The scaler has a "framebuffer" mode where pixels are directly written to DRAM by the...

Re: Lets actually try Hybrid Emulation
RTG on MiSTer is just some DDRAM area directly fetched by the scaler. The framebuffer address is the rtg_base[31:0] signal = 0x2700 0000 But, it is mapped in the 68K memory map @ 0x200 0000, in an unused memory area outside ZIII space. (RTG doesn't need to allocate any fastram memory) For this hybrid version, mapping RTG into ZIII memory could be s...

Re: MiSTer core without make files?
It's quite common for commercial tools to install to their own directory and not use linux packages. And use scripts for launch. Same for Xilinx (other FPGA brand). Several versions can be installed at once (with gigabytes of data, shared libraries), often on a large shared server, with licence files. Sometimes non-admins need to install software. ...

Re: Lets actually try Hybrid Emulation
How does it work in Amiga land?
The Chip RAM is only accessible to the CPU and don't need any cache coherency with the rest of the system (except for RTG video) ?
I suppose other architectures with 68K CPUs are likely to use coherent RAM for DMA.
