Re: QMTech MiSTer Not Working on VGA Monitor

1.) Are the video filters displaying properly at 480x640 or is a higher resolution recommended? The crt filters on SNES look fine to my eyes but I'm just wondering. Scanline filters tend to not do anything until at least 3x scale (720p). Shadow masks also going to be ugly at so low res. If you don't care about either of those it might not be much ...

Re: AmigaVision 2024.10.10 Released with Internet Support + MiSTer CD32 Launcher, 182 Game Updates

Thus, even if you solve launcher 'issues' for NTSC displays, it still renders the vast majority of the library effectively unplayable (due to both timing and resolution). There's a "force NTSC" option and it works on many (though not all) games, enough so you're not locked out of the "vast majority" at least. Seems more like wa...

Re: Recommended Joysticks for Different Cores

If you're feeling handy there's a PCB design for a USB encoder replacement board that you can install in a DB9 ArcadeR. This will connect directly via USB at low latency and allow you to map the top two buttons to whatever in Mister instead of being autofire toggles. I happened to buy one in the U.S. from the ArcadeR facebook group although the guy...

Re: Dell P1914S 1280x1024 LCD. Can any owners share their ini file? I want 4x integer for Amiga and C64 but so far no lu

Have you tried vscale_mode=5? The Settlers uses a viewable 352x272 resolution, which is close enough to 5:4. But: A higher native screen resolution gives you of course a better chance to hit a perfect integer while filling the whole screen. If you're going non-integer I would rather work with the Mister's scaler than those built into early LCDs. E...

If you're using Amigavision/MegaAGS it cuts everything to either 216p or 270p for 5x or 4x @ 1080p respectively. Its not trivial to adjust that stuff to line up with 1024, changes have to be made inside the hard drive image itself. You might try playing with some disk images to see if you can get a better effect. The other issue is that 1280x1024 i...

Modelines do not rotate the image. Only the core itself can, and you can tailor a modeline to match that rotation. If the core itself doesn't include a rotate option in its menu there isn't much you can do, unless you want to edit the source itself in verilog/HDL or whatever. There is an ini option for rotating the OSD only, not the games. I see, ...

I don't see vsync_adjust. If you've got the core set to variable refresh then vsync_adjust=1 or 2 you will get 70hz in DOS which your TV probably won't handle, or at least not with normal modelines. Try vsync_adjust=0 to force the refresh provided in your modeline for now.

Interestingly, it is now at the hour past point of pre-orders and it is not sold out. I passed on it and am wondering if the market for Analogue is cooling down due to other options now. The options for N64 aren't that great. There' just less demand than the pocket. Which makes sense when you look at how many gameboys sold versus N64s. And the ope...

For optimal timing, think you need a mister-specific active adapter for the 5-pin din to USB for the user port. (And then naturally a classic 5-pin midi cable.) There's a bunch of them out there, here's legacypixel's.

Any resolution to this, no pun inteded? I've been hoping for 480i from a0486 for years, but no dice yet. Even better would be a 480i super resolution, so games can scale better. EDIT: wa...

The arm part sounds interesting, this could move the mt32pi project into full software mt32 emulation on the mister without the need for a pi!

This is a funny turn of phrase, on-device MUNT and Fluidsynth are already installed on Mister and semi-usable, just slotting in a more powerful ARM should make them more reliable.

Re: How exactly does the "Scale" option under "Audio & Video" work?

"Normal" scale will make the scaler abide by your vscale_mode setting in mister.ini. If its 0 it will fill the screen, 1 will be vertical integer scaling, 2 will do half-integer steps, etc. Many (but not all) cores that have a 5x cut/216p option require vscale_mode=0 for it to work. V-integer will mostly ovveride your vscale_mode setting ...

It should be enough to write 241007 into /MiSTer.version to fix that temporary (tested in a MiSTer emulation).

Re: Output to a LCD TV and a CRT TV/monitor through direct video without having to disconnect cables

normally if your Mister have a dual RAM build and is connected to a LCD TV, if you wanted to play on a CRT TV you'd have to unplug the HDMI cable from the Mister, then connect a HDMI-VGA adapter to the HDMI port of the Mister and a VGA-component cable to the adapter and to the TV. Is this only for dual RAM setups? I’m using a single RAM build and ...

Re: Input Lag: Solution to vsync_adjust=2 screen syncing?

There's currently no real solution here short of using analog output. You need vsync_adjust=2 (no framebuffer) for minimal lag and that's going to necessitate drops when changing cores at least.

VRR isn't fully implemented unless vsync_adjust=0 but even then it seems implemented incorrectly. (I get a lot of wobble on an LG C1 when doing this.)

When using YPbPr there shouldn't be any kind of sync with the SoG switch "off" so its interesting that it can make things worse. Many people have had specific TVs having trouble with Mister sync using YPbPr. Aside from avoiding the cheaper I/O boards from Alibaba, creating your own SoG circuit, or getting a different TV, not much you can ...

I'm super sus if an NTSC analog SD TV can't handle SNES. I'd be more likely to blame your converter.

But sure I think [SNES] should work for testing. I'd probably use video_mode=512,240,60,cvt for evener pixels.

Come to think of it, you might need something higher to raise the pixel clock for the converter to work. Maybe 2048,240,60,cvt.

If you're using direct video none of those settings should do anything. They are for scaled (non-direct) output only. You should be more specific about which cores you have in mind. Some default to sub-NTSC refresh, others work above 15khz like Ao486, others don't have any analog output like ao486. In these cases you want to apply a fix that is spe...
