It’s a while since I fiddled with it so I haven’t any advice on setting it up, but there’s an MSX program called sofarun that will launch ROMs for you. Put it and your .ROMs, .DSKs and so on in a vhd.

Re: 2x Integer Vertical Scaling in GBA2P
I haven’t used GBA2P and my MiSTer isn’t to hand so I can’t check this myself, but I’d fire the core up and take one screenshot using the raw output (win+left shift+printscreen) and another with the scaled output (win+printscreen). Then you can check the resolution of the raw output in case it’s different for some reason and also see how big the bo...

Re: Request: Smaller Borders!
I had a look at this and have made a version with an OSD option to crop the borders and only show the 256x192 pixel active area, but while I was testing it I tried the crop 216 option and that seems pretty good. Is there really need for no borders? Anyways, I'm attaching the .rbf if anyone wants to try it. I know next to nothing about the Spectrum,...

This isn’t very helpful, but I was able to play through the whole game on MiSTer without this problem in February 2021. Maybe you could try the version of the core from back then and see if it works?

Re: DE10 Nano from Self-Balancing Robot Kit
And i guess you can actually use it in its current state for a Mister build. It just would be clunky as all hell with the SDRAM module pointing straight down. It wouldn't fit in any existing cases. I don’t think this would work, because there are two rows of pins. If you install the SDRAM upside down socket one will either end up at pin 2 or pin 3...

Re: Transfer Files to MSX, e.g. Update Files on VHD?
It’s been a while since I tried but I think I was able to mount VHDs stored on my MiSTer as drives on my Win10 PC through the network and change their contents that way, which was slightly more convenient than copying them over, making the changes, and copying them back.

Thanks for the game, atrac17.
Thanks for the clarification on the change to update all, jca. I also missed that in the screenshots and I’m sure would have had a similar process of confusion if you hadn’t posted about it.

Re: Getting a near perfect aspect ration without shimmering (SNES and NES cores)
Have you tried both the narrow and wide HV integer setting? The narrow one should be the largest integer scale that’s narrower than the correct aspect ratio and the wide one should be the smallest integer scale that’s wider, so one of them should get what you want.

Re: PSX Core Possible to Have Game Specific Settings?
I think you should be able to do it by setting up a .mgl file with a setname tag, similar the one here that allows saving different settings for Master System and Game Gear. You have to then make a new directory for the game files (/games/psxturbo or whatever you call it) and probably the bios and stuff as well so it’s a bit of fiddling especially ...

Re: Split core into separete cores for SMS and GG
I would also love to have a separate GG core mainly because of the video settings, one CRT one LCD. I only have macOS, can someone here recompile the latest SMS core to a GG core? This method is no longer necessary, you can just make an .mgl file (in a text editor) with a setname tag in it as described in my previous post in this thread. The mgl f...

Re: Split core into separete cores for SMS and GG
This now seems to be pretty easily possible with the setname feature of .mgl files. I made a file called GameGear.mgl in my _console directory with the following contents: <mistergamedescription> <rbf>_console/sms</rbf> <setname>GameGear</setname> </mistergamedescription> And now I have GameGear as a seperate option in my console list and the abili...

Re: No Game Will Start Just Grey Background
I think I’d find it easier to understand if the optional and required cores were separated - maybe at the start of the page list the ones where it’s optional and have text saying the cores can use it but will run without it, and then list the ones where it’s required and specifically say “the following cores will not work without SDRAM” or somethin...

Re: ROMs Work On Install, But Stop Working Later
Maybe an intermittent issue with your SDRAM? It’s optional for genesis, GBA, and PC Engine cores, so if they’re working but not other stuff that’s where I’d look. Odd that other things are working some of the time, though. Have you tried the SDRAM test core?

Re: 3x scaling instead of 5x scaling
What’s the resolution of your screen and your video_mode setting? If you’re on the default video mode setting then the mister will be putting out 720p and a 300 pixel border would only leave 120 pixels for the actual image, maybe that’s why it was so tiny for you? The game gear’s resolution is 144 lines instead of 160, so you should get similar res...

Re: 3x scaling instead of 5x scaling
Yeah the formula would be: (video_mode resolution - target resolution)/2 = vscale_border setting So if you’re on 1080p and you want it scaled up 3x, it’s (1080 - 480)/2 = 300 In mister.ini: [gba] vscale_mode=0 vscale_border=300 Giving 300 blank lines above, 480 lines of picture, then 300 blank lines below. For 2x scaling you’d need it set to 380. T...

Re: Vertical bands in Super Mario Kart with 5x and MG shadow mask
Maybe it’s not the TV, but the menu option on my 1080p Samsung that I think corresponds to “just scan” is menu->picture->picture options->size->screen fit If the size is set to screen fit then it will display the full 1080p signal. Otherwise it upscales slightly and part of the image gets cut off. Dunno if that’s your problem here, but I found it w...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
I don't have an SNES classic, but doesn't it have a display option for fully stretching out the 4:3 image to 16:9 when displayed on a normal 16:9 screen, which would therefore be a 4:3 image on the Retina screen? So far as I can tell, it doesn’t. The display options are CRT (a filter on the 4:3), 4:3 (scales to 4:3 within a 16:9 frame), and pixel ...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
I got one of these intending to use it for my MiSTer, but I’ve wound up using it mostly as a second screen for my PC. This is kind of off-topic for a MiSTer board, but today I plugged in my SNES classic and realised that it only puts out widescreen, making it horizontally compressed on this 4:3 iPad screen. I can’t change it on the SNES end, does a...

I’m not sure if this is the same problem, but I have more HDMI devices than ports on my TV, so I’m using a switch box. Re: MiSTer Custom Aspect Ratios for Horizontal Integer Scaling
Using the border is an alternative way to get vertical integer scaling without using vscale_mode=1. You can use it for any core, but it’s most useful for vertical arcade cores because vscale_mode=1 doesn’t work properly for them (I think it gets applied before rotation, so the result after rotation is incorrect). Basically you need to calculate the...
