I think the 128 core is more mature. They probably should be merged at some point like the 2600/7800.

There are already MRA files to make the 128 into a 64, but it has issues with reset.

The C128 core is based on the C64 core though... and really the C64 core origins date back 20 years. FPGA64 was developed for the C-One FPGA

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

But aren't the USB hubs powered directly from the power supply, whether via a y splitter or a jumper piece that is what actually delivers power from the hub to the DE10-nano? If you route the power through the Mister, the most you can supply to the whole stack is about 4A, because that's all the DE-10 will transmit across the board. It has overvol...

Re: What Adds Input Delay?

PS1 variable or low frame rates was not always intended it was a by product of being CPU limited and we can see with the Turbo or X2 CPU core in MiSTer how a lot games could perform without affecting the game logic but depends on engine. Some frame rates on a stock PS1 are very poor. So the latency will be all over the place unintended and this is...

Re: What Adds Input Delay?

Imho a lot latency or lag is overblown and a lot of these old systems were not latency free to start with for example a original SNES had up to 72ms or 3.6 frames of latency on a CRT Any latency inherent to the console will be known to the devs and compensated for with game design. But they didn't know about flat panels, and won't be considering e...

Re: What Adds Input Delay?

But not the hardware itself. The lag was programmed into the games. Super Mario World has 2-3 frames of lag iirc. Most 8bit games (after the VCS Generation) had mostly 1 frame, later 16bit games 1-2. I wouldn't say the lag is programmed more a side effect of a combination of code and hardware. The SNES CPU was pretty poor and the cause of the slow...

@FPGA64 I have a 4 way joystick - leaf switch so smooth it's like butter (https://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=407), I would highly recommend it. @Lloyd2084 I'm using a de-10 Nano. Re: Discussion and Development of a 'MiSTer 2.0' Modular Hardware Platform

My focus was on breaking the lock on the DE10-nano and widening the MiSTer platform, so we could have more fun developing more hardware, more cores and hopefully lowering the price point and increasing functionality. Are people interested in physical interfaces for cartridges / peripherals Maybe a dedicated computer baseboard that has many or the ...

Re: Discussion and Development of a 'MiSTer 2.0' Modular Hardware Platform

Intel never took Altera internal after the buyout and the chips are still fabbed on TSMC 28nm, with TSMC increasing 28nm capacity and it being a older node you would have expected supplies to have improved by now. Though we don't know Intel's wafer deal or how much Terasic is controlling supply while enjoying the higher prices. Terasic has always h...

Oh granted but there is nothing really new in using FPGAs in Retrogaming or even add ons. We have seen some great projects over the years like C-One, Minimig, MiST, Turbo Chameleon, Ultimate 64, 1541-U2, FPGA SID etc We have seen lots of smaller multi system FPGAs too and analogue pocket now has MiSTer core ports All we really need is Terasic to re...

I've seen the idea of a alternative board or MiSTer 2 thrown around before on the FB group. A cheaper alternative to the DE-10 would be nice but we might end up in the same situation with a alternative board I've also seen Sorg state on FB there isn't much further to go with FPGAs in general in terms of retrogaming for various reasons We have also ...

The Amiga is horrible and deviant for normal TV standards, yes. Barring any new options being added to the core, your main recourse is going to be to mess with the scaler rather than the simple direct output to try and standardize things. Maybe something like [minimig] vga_scaler=1 direct_video=0 video_mode_ntsc=660,240,60,cvt video_mode_pal=660,2...

I just had to replace my old fan, which failed at less than six months of age. I used a Noctua as a replacement, and it's working fine. People saying you don't need a fan are wrong in many cases. I had multiple arcade cores crashing when I was heatsink-only, and the bad fan on the digital I/O board was nearly painful to touch. Now that the new fan...

The Daemonbite DB9 USB adaptor only adds around 0.74ms of latency, are you sure your adaptor adds 1 frame (16ms) ?
If so they are cheap to make and games feel spot on

The is SNAC support for the C64 core via Antonio Villena DB9 SNAC using the forked cores but you also need one of his AIO boards or an Ironclad ITX

From a 10,000-foot overview, it seems like the SD2IEC is doing the same thing that the Mister is already doing, just with a different interface. If someone implements it, it might be nice to have a toggle to either send the commands out the SNAC port, or else redirect them to the existing drive code. That way, you can either provide a real SD2IEC ...
