Re: USB vs Jamma versatility: In some scenarios, is Jamma even worth it??

Now that I wrap my head around the idea that Mistercade and Jamma solutions are basically still doing a conversion of JAMMA->USB, I'm wondering if a JAMMA-SNAC solution would be that much closer or equal to direct GPIO pins? I'm not sure how things are implemented, but JAMMA is a parallel communications channel and SNAC is a serial communications ...

Re: USB vs Jamma versatility: In some scenarios, is Jamma even worth it??

Although, to be sure, we wouldn't be able to support full JAMMA here… not enough pins. No 4-player Street Fighter, I'm afraid.

Re: USB vs Jamma versatility: In some scenarios, is Jamma even worth it??

I have always blindly 'wanted' jamma without considering if it was best for MY personal setup instead of USB. I largely agree with the points everyone is making; JAMMA as generally supported on MiSTer FPGA today provides few concrete benefits to a new setup. But I just wanted to add that there is nothing wrong in principle with "wanting"...

Good information. Thanks again, LamerDeluxe!

Really unfortunate that the Daptor adapters are not being made anymore.

Increasingly common problem!

Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to build one… but I imagine it might be tricky to calibrate well.

Really classic looking controller, nice job!

Thanks, LamerDeluxe!

I just really thoroughly cleaned the potentiometers of my original Atari paddles and they work quite well.

Thanks for the tip. Time to buy more cotton swabs and isopropyl alcohol!

Re: Daptor-2600 D9 with 2600 Paddles? [Solved]

I also made my own spinner paddle and it is fantastic feeling:https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=39990#p39990 Nice! Very compact, too… I'll bet the new Tron styling looks sharp. However, I also love the original feeling of the original paddles that I grew up with. I like them, too… maybe I will have to give the CX30+'s a try, based on your rec...

Re: Daptor-2600 D9 with 2600 Paddles? [Solved]

You can get brand new ones now and they work great (when they work properly - right now my paddle buttons are not recognized). https://www.amazon.com/CX30-Paddle-Pack-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B0CTJ6TW43 Interesting… I see some accounts on fora of CX30+'s exhibiting jitter, too. It looks like they also use potentiometers, which are electro-mechanica...

Re: Nintendo 64 Input Situation

Thanks Chris23235, that worked! I briefly encountered the other problem Swainy recounted ("up & down have stopped working on the analog stick"). It turned out the issue was that I had been giving up on the main menu controller setup process too early… eventually it comes around and asks you to configure Analog Stick 1 for a second tim...

Re: Daptor-2600 D9 with 2600 Paddles? [Solved]

Sorry for the necropost, but it turned out that 40 years later, the Atari paddles of reality don't correspond very well to my fond memories. The potentiometer inputs jump around so much some games are barely playable. I ended up just building my own USB paddle controller: https://github.com/dhorlick/rooster rooster.jpeg inside.jpeg Thunderstick Stu...

Re: Nintendo 64 Input Situation

Thanks for the response! Have you mapped the controller in the MiSTer main menu (not in the core?) You mean "Define/Map Joystick Buttons" in the System Settings? If so, That begins to take me thru the mapping of a conventional, non-64 Game Controller. When it asks for X and Y, etc., should I just skip them? And should I pretend the C butt...

Well I’ve figured out my previous problem (the start button was calling up the MiSTer menu) but now up & down have stopped working on the analog stick.

I'm experiencing the same "start button" problem with a SAFFUN USB Version Classic N64 Controller. How did you fix it?

Re: Show Us Your MiSTers

The cases on this thread are incredible. But I've always been a fan of the standard "exposed PCB stack" configuration. I wanted to preserve it, while addressing some of its mechanical problems: misterfpga.co.uk's SNAC adapter works great, but it's about as secure as a string tied around your finger to remind you of something. I like the c...

So one end of the 3.5mm audio cable plugs into the headphone jack on the Atari SNAC adapter… what does the other end plug into? An Audio Tape Input Board, or the ADC input of the digital version of the IO Board, I guess?

I'm confused… what would the ADC input plug into?
