Re: Tutorials or guides to get started using the ao486 core for DOS games?

Thanks DiamondDave and bbond007,

I've seen Flynnsbit's Top 300 post on top of the forums for awhile now, so I'll watch his videos and try his shareware pack first and then update it hopefully sometime this week. :D

Tutorials or guides to get started using the ao486 core for DOS games?

Hi all, I'd like to take the dive into getting my small collection of DOS games running on my MiSTer using the ao486 core, but getting started seems a bit intimidating. Do you all have any suggestions for tutorials or guides for how to get started? I spent a lot of time getting my collection to run well using DOSBox, and oh, you know had a lot of e...

Long file names: Can you increase menu width or display the full file name?

Hi all, Another newbie question here, so thanks in advance. Many of the games I play have translations or multiple hacks, which I've given long file names to help keep them organized (e.g., "Destiny of an Emperor 2 - The Story of Zhuge Liang (Japan) En Confederated Translation Company.nes") and can't be fully displayed in the MiSTer menu,...

Re: MiSTer Update Only Update What You Need?

Good tip with the service-cores suggestion. I did a bit more trial and error with the arcade cores, and it seems that for multi-game arcade cores, you can only specify the core (RFB files) not specific games under the core (MRA files). So you will get listings for all the arcade games for a specific core in your menu, whether you want/have them or ...

Re: MiSTer Update Only Update What You Need?

Interesting, "ddonpach" is the standard mame file name for DoDonPachi. I'll start with that. Thanks again!

Re: MiSTer Update Only Update What You Need?

Thanks, Iimi, that's exactly what I'm looking for. So for naming the repositories in the INI file, do you use the core file name as it would appear on the MiSTer or the core name in the GitHub repository? For example, the CAVE arcade core for playing DoDonPachi is "Arcade-CAVE_20210920.rbf" when you download it directly, but is shortened ...

MiSTer Update Only Update What You Need?

Hi all, MiSTer newbie here, so thank you for your assistance! I plan to use my MiSTer as a somewhat kid friendly retro machine (i.e. something without native internet access) and was wondering if there is a way to prevent the update script from downloading cores, MRA files, etc., that I don't plan to use. The primary goal here would be to make navi...

Re: JT CPS 1.5 and 2 cores: No HDMI audio.

Thanks for the reply, ExCyber! After checking which games were causing the issues above, which turns out to be all of my CPS1.5 and CPS2 games, I realized that they all have the QSound intro. After a quick skim of posts searching for that and then looking at the core readme, I realized I was missing the QSound driver rom, qsound.zip. Everything wor...

JT CPS 1.5 and 2 cores: No HDMI audio.

Hi all, New MiSTer user here, so apologies if there is an obvious answer I'm missing. I recently tried to get a few CPS1.5 and CPS2 arcade games running using Jotego's cores (e.g., https://github.com/jotego/jtbin/tree/master/mister/cps2), but I don't have audio in those games over my HDMI cable to my modern Samsung TV. Two examples of games without...
