Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
Since the Saturn core was added to the main distribution, I noticed there was a commit on yesterday's build to fix the centering on CRTs: Add offsets for 224/240/256 lines Correct horizontal offsets for 320 / 352 pixel lengths Tested over the previous week (NTSC/PAL) Fixes Off center image Unfortunately I haven't noticed any difference as of yet, ...

Re: Recently Updated Four MiSTer's Using update_all Now None Show Video
Updated today 08/27//23. All worked fine prior to update_all being run as I have done numerous times. Now none will display any video. I can still ftp to them but update somehow hosed the video. Has anyone else experienced this on latest update_all run? It happened on 4 misters so obviously coming from repo Any idea if there is a known issue with ...

Thanks @green_onion, your log looks fine, do you mind sharing your downloader.ini file too? it would be very helpful to gather the logs from @Hodoer and @SegaMan to see what is common between you 3. Certainly, and sorry again about the delayed response. [mister] filter = !cheats [distribution_mister] db_url = https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MiST...

I noticed on this morning's update that the !cheats filter in the .ini was ignored or overridden and a number of cheats were subsequently downloaded. Have the filters changed?

H/V centering on console cores over VGA
Several arcade cores feature horizontal / vertical adjustments over VGA for centering on CRTs. A ridiculously convenient feature. I was wondering if there is anything preventing similar adjustments from being introduced to console cores. I understand implementing it would be on a per-core basis rather than anything that can be universally added int...

Re: MiSTerFPGA Y/C Out Module (Direct - S-Video / Composite Output) - Update
I do have a discord account, although unfortunately that link doesn't seem to be working. I take it the link was intended to be a direct link to the file itself. If it's available to share, would you have a link to the server instead? Nonetheless, thanks for the assistance so far. I know what you mean about it being somewhat cumbersome to have so ...

Re: MiSTerFPGA Y/C Out Module (Direct - S-Video / Composite Output) - Update
Is the discord the only place to get the test build of the GenesisYC core? I love the NES/SNES/PCE/PS1 YC cores over composite, but I've been hoping to see these implementations for a bit cleaner output for the Genesis/32X/GBA/etc cores. Anyways my thanks to MikeS1's work on all of these. They're phenomenal to have. Here is the link if you have di...

Re: MiSTerFPGA Y/C Out Module (Direct - S-Video / Composite Output) - Update
Here's attempting to change a standard genesis to look "better" or have timing that closer to the NTSC standard. A real console has all the nasty artifacts so this is just an exercise :) genesistiming.png It's good to know I'm not crazy after I noticed these artifacts. I'm all for visual accuracy, but I'll add to those saying it would be...

I understand that it's an alpha core release, and I understand that the audio is a WIP on this core, but I can't seem to get any audio out of it whatsoever.
I've tried both the 2023.03.26 and 2023.03.29 releases. Anything I might be overlooking?

Re: Main Menu OSD Constantly Scrolling Down When VGA Connected
Well, I think I may have resolved this. After another search I was able to find an issue on the Menu_MiSTer github from about a year ago - https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Menu_MiSTer/issues/22 - where the OP realized that their updater accidentally got set to download the DB9 fork of the menu. I checked my updater options and sure enough it had som...

Re: Main Menu OSD Constantly Scrolling Down When VGA Connected
🤔 ...maybe try: menu_pal=1 ; 1 - PAL mode for menu core I've had what you describe happening in the past with an RGB PAL only 15 kHz CRT, using a VGA to SCART cable. I'm using an NTSC PVM+LCD setup, but I decided to try setting menu_pal=1 just to see if it resolved the issue, but it still persists. Thanks nonetheless, any suggestions from people w...

Main Menu OSD Constantly Scrolling Down When VGA Connected
I've been using my MiSTer over VGA (RGB) for the past year without incident, but following an update_all this morning it has been behaving as though the keyboard is operating with the down directional key being held down. Some key points: I have what I presume are standard IO and USB Hubs. It's not the keyboard. The issue persists even when the key...

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
Lu's video says you need to go to s-video before composite, but I'm just going component straight to composite with no s-video in between. Am I going to break something doing it this way? edit: apparently there's a possibility of damage, gonna grab those s-video cables Out of curiosity, what would the risk of damage be? I'm also using a VGA->Compo...

Re: S-Video and Composite Over Component Output! (Custom Cores)
I know others have stated that this eliminates the need for Antonio's adapter, but will it nonetheless work *with* Antonio's adapter for stable composite output? Asking because I already have it here and now as opposed to VGA->Component->Composite cables

Re: "Shimmering" effect over composite video
Luckily, the S-Video output on Antonio's adapter doesn't have nearly as bad shimmering / crawl dot, so if your monitor supports that input option, I recommend you check it out. The results might be sufficient for your needs. I do have S-Video on one CRT of mine, and the image is clear and stable on Antonio's adapter. Problem is that set weighs a t...

"Shimmering" effect over composite video
My apologies if this question has been previously asked on the forum, but has anyone solved the "shimmering" effect when using composite output with Antonio Villena's VGA->Composite/S-video adapter? I've tried it on at least three different consumer CRTs and while all the cores I've tried sync and scale just fine, everything seems to have...

Re: Any Difference or Shortcoming Using a Keyboard Instead of the IO Board Buttons?
I don't understand why anybody does use the I/O board buttons. Why walk across the room when you have a controller in your hand or a keyboard in front of you? The one button that would be useful for most users is a power switch, and none of the standard I/O boards provide one. I used to have the OSD mapped to the controllers, but I quickly found t...

Re: CRT vs. LCD "Disadvantage of CRT with Cores"
I'll be honest. Being able to connect to and use it on CRTs with relative ease is pretty integral to my interest in the MiSTer. I completely understand that prioritizing modern displays over analog video is key to future-proofing the MiSTer as a project, as these bulky tube TVs are going to continue giving up the ghost over time despite peoples' ef...

Re: Possible to simulate NTSC dot crawl via filters?
I've been hoping that something like the blargg NTSC filters would make their way to console cores in MiSTer. I've seen some arcade cores with an "old TV" setting that actually outputs through VGA as well, although they'd probably be even better suited for console cores rather than arcade ones. The visual artifacts caused by noise and dis...

Basically no limit to flashing the FPGA. 'Altera does not specify the number of times you can reprogram or reconfigure FPGA devices because these devices are SRAM-based. An SRAM-based device can be reconfigured as often as a design requires; there is no specific limit.' Source: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/programmable/support/support-r...

How durable do you find the DE10-Nano to be?
Hey, first post, relatively new to the whole MiSTer/FPGA thing and still rather clueless how they work on any detailed level. I've had my MiSTer for a little over a month and I was wondering what people's opinions of and experience with the DE10-Nano regarding daily use over a period of time. Since getting one set up my MiSTer gets plenty of daily ...
