i'm holding off new framework propagation to cores to make sure existing boards (including compatible 3rd party boards) are fine with changes.

There is no hardware acceleration in emulated video driver. It's very very basic.
And there is no way to expand the video ram. If you want some versatile video card with hardware acceleration then it must be written in FPGA and new driver must be written for that.
You are welcome to improve the core.
