Re: My only minor side to the MiSTer

"mister saturn" is actually sort of a difficult Google search. Boing!

Re: Correct CHD Pack on archive.org?

I get “CD bios not found!” when trying my CHD files. I’m just on the latest release (from this morning), nothing unstable. I can see the CHD files in the Saturn core but get this message when I try to launch them. I have another set of CHDs downloaded on my PC, so I’ll try those and see if they work. EDIT: Oh, I need to add and load my own bios. No...

The merman area at the beginning of SotN turns yellow for some reason.

For someone who has never played a Saturn games (and this one in particular): what is a "merman area" and where is it located? :)

I often think of the lower half of my body as my "merman area".

I'd spend an afternoon or two exploring the core if someone ever makes one. For better or worse, that's my level of interest.

Re: D-Pad 'quitting' on Retrobit wireless Sega Saturn controller

This controller is okay, my 2.4GHz version has no real issues, but when I play games I'm super familiar with I notice some delay. Like Sonic games for example, I can tell he's jumping slightly late when I hit a face button. Unfortunate for something that's meant to be better than Bluetooth - my 8bitdo BT SNES pad is more responsive. Plus this Retro...

Officially released. Grabbed with update_all and played some R-Type this morning! Awesome stuff.

Re: Must Play Metroidvania Games

Thanks for the Popful Mail callouts in this thread! I had heard of it, launched it up on PC Engine CD at one point and was put off by it being all in Japanese. I had no idea the Sega CD has a version localized in English. Checking out some coverage of it and it looks like it'll be a fun one to play through!

Re: Best Version of Original R-Type Playable On MiSTer?

Lots of great perspective here, thanks everyone! I'm loving the TG-16 complete game and PCE CD version with extra sprites per line turned on. Not sure how I missed that option! I like the CD soundtrack. I think I'll have to try out the SMS version again just to see an interesting conversion. And I may try some more of the PSX version but that extra...

Re: Share the most terrible retro gaming memory you have

That sinking feeling when the N64 memory card needs to be reformatted for the 50th time. Luckily not many games used it, and sometimes when they did it was for optional features.

Best Version of Original R-Type Playable On MiSTer?

I have tried a bunch of different versions and landed on PC Engine CD, then realized it was also ported to PSX as part of the "R-Types" collection. I've since bounced between these two versions a bit... PCE CD version feels really good to play but if there's too much on screen sprites start flickering out. PSX version seems to look very c...

Re: PSX Core Official Release

Is there a bug on MemCard support? I can see save files in the psx bios menu but not in the game (Ridge Racer, Metal Gear). Did not have this problem on early beta cores. Seems like there's no memory card interface in games? I saw the same in beta cores, though I didn't start using them until like a week ago. Very much a "nice to have" t...

Re: What Do Some of Those PSX Core Options Do?

Fixed HBlank gives me a 1 inch black bar on the left and right of my CRT. I'm sure there's more to it than that however. On a flat panel, Fixed HBlank looks "correct" in terms of pixel sizes being uniform. So a the most basic level (I'm not an expert), it seems like you'd want it off for CRT and on for LCD. Unless you want more of a CRT-...

Re: Top 5 Games for the PlayStation?

Metal Gear Solid is really "the one" for me, particularly to recommend now. It will feel old and clunky in some ways, but it really felt like it was being created to make the most of the PlayStation and not one of those games trying too hard to hit a realism target it could never reach in that era. I played it in 2015 or so and still had ...

Re: Best Controller Setup For MiSTer?

Hori Fighting Commander for ps3/ps4/pc is the best controller for me. Super versatile, has a home button, shoulder buttons and a solid d-pad. It's a wired controller which I still generally prefer when playing games Was going to get that but then saw reviews of it breaking within a month. Glad you found something that works for you, but I’m surpri...

I really enjoyed Magical Chase on the Turbo. In terms of witch shooters I prefer it over Cotton.
