Re: Dual RAM and Analog Output

I believe it's because the DE-10 Nano has two strips of i/o pins that can be used for 2xRAM modules OR 1xRAM module and 1xAnalogue video conversion. The ADC is what converts digital values to an analogue voltage curve that mimics the analogue video requirements of older CRT monitors. It has no effect through HDMI. HDMI's data stream is digital, so ...

Re: Converting an Arcade Spinner for Arcade1UP to PC/Mister

Very interesting. Timely for me, as I'm putting together my take of a Couchcade. I'd have to make a break out board for this I think, don't suppose you've got that in mind? I've got a GRS joystick/button interface and the 12in1 for the spinner/trackball. Fed into a USB hub. This would be way more compact. Do you know if the GRS trackball would work...

Re: MiSTer and Cubase

Got to say as a Cubase user back in the early 90s, I have no nostalgia for it compared to todays. I guess if you have a couple of Akai S900s, a real to reel and want to preserve the pain it was back then to make anything. Then there's all the studio re patching to go back to another track.... :)

Re: Off the Shelf Trackball Options

Re-Couchcade, I spoke to the Thundersticks guys via email, and they said the only way to get it to work over USB was to swap out all the parts with, funnily enough, their own stuff. But at that time, MiSTer wouldn't combine controls from two interfaces, one for their spinners and two buttons? The other was needed to hook up the extra fire buttons. ...

Re: Off the Shelf Trackball Options

And the trackball wires 20221226_145314.jpg Did you get any of the controls hooked to to USB for MiSTer at all? In that last pic, the black splodge on the circuit board is to stop people working out what the chip is doing with logic probes. I looked into what that would mean a while back and unfortunately didn't save links to YouTube videos or rem...

Re: Off the Shelf Trackball Options

So I bit the bullet and got a Couchcade from Santa to see if it scratches that arcade itch and I got to say it's been good fun. But the intention was always to see if I can hack into it and use it as a USB controller. Going to get a Pi Pico next and see if I can wire it all up, and get some code running. Here's the inside, the spinner is on the le...

Re: Off the Shelf Trackball Options

https://misterfpga.org/download/file.php?id=8015 That black splodge is to stop people probing the chip underneath. I've not found anyone who's been able to decode the signals. You can go to Thundersticks and get USB replacement parts but you'll be adding a further $50 plus shipping. Also the ABC buttons are too far apart to be comfortable for missi...

Re: Two Monitor Setup, RGB Component Splitter

Thanks for posting the pics. Completely agree with Stupid Dufus above. You've got some great options on how you can chain those two together. The principle is you go from MiSTer into one, out of that into the other. No need for termination. You've got RGBs, S-Video and Composite options with those two PVMs. For RGBs you're looking for 1m BNC Male t...

Re: Two Monitor Setup, RGB Component Splitter

Can you show a picture of the back of both PVMs? I'm not clear on if you are using RGBs for both.

Back in the day we would use BNC terminators at the end of video signal runs to stop any signal bounce back. If the monitors don't have that feature, there's ways around it.

Re: Extension with Daemon Adapter

That's a shame. I was going to follow this build https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=905#p905 Ah that would work! I could also probably get it to auto detect to see if it’s a standard PSX controller or a Jogcon and then use the appropriate code. That would be great. I could probably try and hack your code if ever I find code to run the NeGcon. ...

Having the yaw twist is good for games like Elite. I've not used this one, but have got frustrated with a similar priced one that had loose dead zone.

This is fantastic news. I was about to get into something quite fiddly to address this with the arcade controls I'm currently building. This will make mixing controls much much easier.

I've got the Mini Hori Fighting stick. It's a nice compact size, but fairly loose on the controls. There's not much depth to be able to swap out parts.

Thanks for doing that @thorr. So your Happ trackball is running through an Arduino?

It looks like there are 64 teeth on that high res wheel upgrade.

@thorr

Could you try a little experiment? Move your finger from one side of the track ball as quick as you can to the other without it spinning on. Then move the full arc as slowly as you can and see if the screen pointer returns to the same spot.

Re: Centipede Speed Up request

Apparently there's a way to switch off acceleration within Linux. Thing is I'm not finding a directory called xorg.conf.d. To completely disable mouse acceleration, create a file called "50-mouse-acceleration.conf" in xorg.conf.d. The path to xorg.conf.d can vary depending on the Linux distribution you use. For instance, in Ubuntu, Linux ...

Re: Centipede Speed Up request

Apparently the bug should move 2.5 mushrooms with the exposed arc of the ball. 200% does this with the GRS trackball. BUT, that depends on how fast you roll the ball. For example, you can move right quickly, then move back slowly (which brings you back short of where you started). So there is some acceleration going on, probably within the mouse dr...

Re: Centipede Speed Up request

Seems like acceleration is being used. I wonder how well that matches the real machine. I think you might be right. I wonder if the original was completely linear in its reading of the pulses, where as mouse controllers have acceleration curves. That might explain the 3 spins to 2.5 spins needed to cross the screen with a 2x increase in sensitivit...

The trackball doesn't look very fast in this video: https://youtu.be/ZrSfoG0wY8c Good shout finding that. I think at around 3:53 you can see the distance the bug moves with one gesture, it seems further than 400% currently reaches. I think you mean from 2:53, there you can indeed see the screen in combination with his hand moving. 1:02 and 4:38 ar...

I think 300% would be close to the original Centipede arcade game otherwise it is working very well.

I'd be interested in what you think with this update. I can't honestly remember if there was much play at low speed rolling.

Re: Centipede Speed Up request

Thanks jimmystones. I've just played a few games with the GRS trackball the sensitivity is certainly increased and plays better, but I'm now wandering what 800% would do. It took 3 rolls to get across the screen on 200% it now takes 2.5 rolls on 400%. Moving the ball slowly, you can certainly feel the ball travel a bit to move one pixel on screen, ...
