Re: MiSTerFPGA Y/C Out Module (Direct - S-Video / Composite Output) - Update

Mike: Love the composite / s-video output. It's one of the best features of the MiSTer. There was once a test core with improved/lessened composite artifacting on Mega Drive / Genesis. Does anyone have a number to put into yc.txt that would give a similarly improved MD result in the current Y/C framework? (It's surprising that there is a suggested ...

Re: Will names.txt Ever Be Fixed?

https://github.com/ThreepwoodLeBrush/Names_MiSTer this names.txt could be cool if it covered more than just a few dozen arcade games. as it is it appears to only rename a few dozen, adding company names to the start, and leaves the rest alone. i imagine the result is a mixed mess like OP was seeing. Almost no one browses arcade RBF files in the UI...

Re: Save State Support

Yeah I'd actually disagree a bit, ferropop, in that I have sometimes found myself wanting to play a MD/SNES game on MiSTer but don't feel I have the gumption to commit to its entire length in one session. In such cases I wished save states were available to let me "pause" between sessions. In their absence I have taken to looking for in-g...

so glad this accessory is finally supported.

may i ask how good the experience is qualitatively? are the ball and spinner exactly as responsive in each game as you could hope? (i wonder if this being tied to mouse input behind the scenes affects anything for the worse.)

Re: NES SNAC Issue

Are you connecting the SNAC-NES 2X device to MiSTer's user port with a cable? If so, is it very short? Can it be eliminated? I ran into malfunctions on PC Engine SNAC because the cable was too long. I had to plug the PC Engine SNAC board directly into the MiSTer to resolve. (PC Engine controller reading is said to be especially timing-sensitive, wh...

Re: Sporadic sync problems on PVM

I recently got a PVM-2950Q that is fussy about sync / MiSTer's known iffy analog board sync and resolved the rolling RGB/YPbPr by getting a cheap Extron RGB 160xi to normalize the sync before it reached the monitor. Worked perfectly.

Also, the monitor syncs perfectly to the MikeS (hey Mike!) Y/C cores without needing external help.

Re: Custom 3D Printed Cases For MiSTer

These are pretty neat! Nice job. Looks clean for 3D prints. The prices strike me as reasonable given all the effort involved.

If I were in the market, I think two things that would help me would be images of all the possible plastic colors and some form of assembly instructions, like a PDF for example.

Genesis is clean and pleasant overall (Sonic waterfalls are very nice) but there are some vertical splits in certain darker tones as you can see in dark leaves of Sonic palm trees. This could be specific to my TV. (Edit: I checked on my plasma tv and it looks like this and issue below are in the y/c signal.) yc-sonic-tree-s.jpg Thanks for your imp...

Ninja Five-O (U.S.) / Ninja Cop (EU)

Looks and sounds unostentatious, but is one of the best portable 2D action games ever made. Deft combo of Shinobi, Rolling Thunder, Bionic Commando.

It's nice that this is one fewer people will have played.

As far as Castlevanias go Circle of the Moon is a rather interesting one. Imperfect but unusual.

Re: How Do You Setup Autofire to Work Properly?

It's too easy to activate these by accident, I do it semi-often. It's been noted elsewhere that it's a real problem for speedrunners and the like who have to throw out entire runs if they accidentally activate rapid fire.

Ringing / Fringing Artifacts over Analog I/O Board Component (YPbPr) Video

Heyas. I'm trying to track down the cause of very obvious ringing / fringing (what might be called sharpening artifacts) I observe on my MiSTer's analog i/o board component video output. The artifacts appear to the left of bright pixels in areas of dark->light contrast. Scroll down for photo examples. I see the ringing on two consumer TVs (Sony, To...

Re: Recommend X68000 settings for VGA PC CRT (31 khz)

I'm evaluating if I should get a 31Khz screen (VGA monitor) for various computer cores, including X68000. One question I have is, say I used zoopster's settings in the prior post (thank you for sharing, btw!) with a VGA monitor connected to the analog I/O board. If an X68000 game switched to 240p, wouldn't the VGA monitor go out of sync? I'd at lea...

Re: SNAC vs BlisSTer vs Deamonbite

The updated pros/cons list seems really fair. Most people will be happy with DaemonBite or similar. BlisSTer seems to get a lot of flack for its history/creators (and will likely never be officially supported as a result) but as an end-user I've been fairly happy with it. Its ports offer ultra low latency with LLAPI cores (which do get updated ofte...
