Re: DaemonBite Arcade Encoder VS Retro Controller USB

What's the difference? Aren't they both MiSTer input methods? Why did they need to differentiate? I need to adapt my original joysticks to use them with the minimig and C64 cores. Should I go with the Retro Controller USB? I recommend you check out the Reflex Adapt: https://misteraddons.com/products/reflex-adapt More info/comparisons here: https:/...

Re: DaemonBite Arcade Encoder VS Retro Controller USB

What exactly is "Retro Controller USB"? Google doesn't give me an adapter when I look the term up. Opera-Snapshot-2024-02-17-014410-github-com.png The first one. I did that and it works (although I tested it only on my PC as of now). 20240216-171029-crop.jpg Here's a modified diagram with the correct cable colors in case someone is using...

Re: Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

So it seems like the VGA adapter doesn't work in general with Mister but it does work with the PC. I wonder how (or if) you are powering the adapter? It seems to have a micro-USB for taking power if the HDMI power is insufficient. Try plugging it into the same thing whether using PC or Mister? Unfortunately I got the version without audio, so it d...

How about this one? https://www.grooves.land/bicy-box-adapter-cable-raidsonic-icy-box-ac502-hdmi-typ-vga-adapter-pZZa1-2097477034.html It had a perfect rating on the spreadsheet. It seems pretty good, does anyone own one of these? It doesn't come with audio though so you would need to solve that separately. That's not a problem, I wasn't planning ...

Re: Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

You mean like this? direct_video=0 forced_scandoubler=0 video_mode=6 Don't VGA monitors run obligatorily at 31Khz though? Mostly we are dealing with SVGA monitors these days that can run well over 31khz, 31khz is the minimum. Mode 5 or 4 might work also, but sure, might as well start with 6. This is mostly a test to sus out if the problem is direc...

Re: Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

I didn't read everything very carefully, but my best guess is the HDMI to VGA adapter you are using won't work. The MiSTer is VERY picky with what it will work with when it comes to HDMI to VGA adapters. Use this one instead: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS611LJ/ Unfortunately that's not available in Europe. I currently set my sight on thi...

Re: Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

If you are absolutely sure you're using the right settings with the default and clean ini then it really is very weird. Just to be sure I downloaded the default mister.ini from here: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/blob/master/MiSTer.ini ... and it doesn't work. To be double sure I first tested the MiSTer with an HDMI cable (on the sam...

You won't be able to run direct video on most VGA monitors. They don't support 15kHz (240p).

I thought the scandoubler option took care of that. Aside from that, there is the problem that the MiSTer doesn't work through the VGA adapter whatsoever (no matter the settings and the type of the monitor) while a common PC does.

If you have any other display to check the direct video out you might try that (e.g. a 4K display) So, I tested the MiSTer + VGA adapter with a regular LCD 1080p monitor that also happens to have a D-SUB VGA input and the results are weird: MiSTer HDMI+VGA adapter = I get 0 picture, I tried 3 different alt.ini including the one I downloaded from t...

Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

I can't get a signal on my CRT monitor (or better, the monitor is getting something because it doesn't display the "no connection" message, but I'm not getting a picture). I'm using an HDMI-VGA converter and my monitor is a standard PC monitor, it can support 1280x960 but I was planning to run the MiSTer menu at 1024x768 (or even lower). ...

Your device ID is c812 (not b812) which is likely the issue.

The Linux kernel config may need updated and recompiled to make this adapter work.

And will it be updated? Or I can forget it?

Have tested the adapter using any other devices? You need to log into the console (F9) and type "dmesg" (after pluging in the adapter) and see if the adapter is being recognized by Linux. Sometimes they switch the chipsets in these cheap wifi adapters without changing the model numbers. I did not test it in windows because this dongle, s...

I believe Minimig did have it but it was removed for MT32-pi support

There is nothing really to gain though, just use a Daemonbite for original sticks

Yeah, I'm doing that, I've already bough the Arduino.

It seems the N64 Switch controller was built to use the same limited range as the original N64 controller. See this video, which isn't a test on the MiSTer, but does show its range on PC (the relevant section is around 6 minutes in):

Naturally the best choice is going to be the official Switch NSO N64 controller (or the original N64 controller with some sort of adapter). Perfect 1:1 mapping.

Are you sure that the Nintendo Switch N64 controller is 1:1 with the original? Did somebody on the internet test it?

I was thinking of buying a SNAC adapter but I read somewhere that the C64, Amiga and Atari ST cores don't support SNAC, is it true?

If this is the case, are there alternative solutions (possibly just as cheap) that would let me use Commodore/Atari joysticks with minimal latency?

I may be mistaken and the picture is a little dark, but the R1 and R2 markings on that board imply to me the LEDs may already have resistors and the 330ohm may not be necessary (and might cause the LEDs to be dim?). Well, in the manual it says you can put it in PC mode by holding down the back and menu buttons (essentially select and start) for 5 seconds. The logo will flash on and off until it's in PC mode. Thanks for the suggestion. Pressing the two buttons for five seconds doesn't do anything, at least not when connected via Bluetooth. Maybe it's another c...
