I wasn't aware there are ps1's with component output, are you converting the signal in some way? Yes

"If the colors on the regular PSX Core are wrong" Unfortunately they are

Are you sure this isn't introduced from your scart converter? A better measure of how a psx should look in component would be a PS2 if anything.

Re: PWM on 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit Color

Just playing some Gurentai on the pwm saturn core. It's incredible how great it looks on my 31khz vga monitor! Only issue is with the scandoubler the start menu is always in 480i (which makes sense, lots of text, static movement so no interlacing artifacts really) but because of that the scandoubler doesn't seem to work so I have to do those menus ...

Thank you for posting them here. Huge huge thanks to Ruleset! Discord has its advantages but yeah... it's horrid for retaining/maintaining information. So much of great technical info are wasted in there in disorganized and unsearchable state, wash away in sea of junk in minutes... I'm glad that Ruleset maintains PWM cores here. Re: PWM on 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit Color

One question, the PWM feature does work with forced_scandoubler right? That's not like a VGA scaler since it just line doubles without needing to do any extra scaling of any kind. To my eye it looks like banding is improved on the Saturn core with scandoubler on with pwm core vs vanilla but I thought I'd double check it's not a placebo if scandoub...

Re: PWM on 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit Color

I have made a couple of builds that add PWM on the 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit color for the cores that need it. This is for any non-scaled signals that use the VGA port on the IO board. It works by quickly alternating between two different color values to get a color in between. The PWM happens very fast so it can be done even for 640 wide images. W...

I think MLiG would be the best to make such a video. VGE is just super low effort daily videos. Only MLiG would do a well produced deep dive for this. Also possibly DF Retro though those tend to be game focused and not hardware focused

Re: Screen Tearing on top of the Screen for Chippoke Ralph no Daibōken

Makes sense a lot of old games would have screen tearing. Heck, some of the most sophisticated graphics techniques were basically intentionally causing screen tearing in a controlled way while also changing palletes to create all sorts of extra scanline level effects.

Re: PWM on 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit Color

Hello, any chance we can also get an rbf for the PSX 2x core? That one was a oneoff so one benefit is not only the 2X cpu but also that since there are no more updates, if we get PWM for it the core is basically perfect forever. I still usually use the default 1X core, but 2x speed for increased frame rates is nice in certain games. Still, I like m...

Re: PWM on 18-bit DAC to get 24-bit Color

It works great on a per core basis and it's transformative on Groovy, N64 and PSX core so you would think the feature should be part of the Mister framework, but since it doesn't stop the devs from integrating the feature anyway like Groovy did, it's not a terrible problem. Right, though does this mean there has to be a new PWM release for every m...

wow this is sick. Why can't this be integrated into MiSTer main as an option for those that would want it? I made a PR but Sorgelig wasn't interested. He said he preferred people getting a new 24-bit board over adding complexity to the framework. I personally don't think it is too complex, but Sorgelig can probably judge that better. That practica...

Re: New I/O Board, AV Board

I have the old style analog board. Suppose I just go direct video for cores that could use it (primarily psx I'm thinking), is there any advantage to this vs that? My main target monitor is a 31khz pc monitor so needing to convert direct video to ypbpr for a consumer set isn't required.

I have a PSX snac adapter and I can give you my anecdotes. Guncon 1 works perfectly. I also got a 3rd party one, it did not work. Returned it to the retro game shop and got a different gu...

How to Install the 2X PlayStation Core?

Hello, I really want to try out the PSX 2x core. I figure for games with low uncapped framerates it can make for a nice diversion on a title by title basis. I always just get my cores via update all and now I never take the SD card out of my mister because that poor little SD card port feels fragile and last time I did, I couldn't get it to boot fo...

Re: Does a PS2 controller work with PSX core and SNAC?

It sure does! I find the rumble of a PS2 Dualshock works a bit better than the OG dual shock 1. My main controller I use via SNAC though is my DualAnalog since the extra long handles are so luxiourous that I give up rumble for them (it's too bad that they didn't keep that shape) PSX SNAC adapter I think is the best snac you can get honestly. PC Engine vs Turbografx SNAC Question

Hello, I see there are snac adapters for both turbografx and pc engine. I'm assuming, that since they are the same core/plaatform, this is merely to facilitate the different port style between the two regions. I just want to double check that if I buy one, the controller will work across all games in the core and not be region locked or whatever. I...

Re: 31Khz CRT gets squashed image

I'm wondering if it's a mix of scandoubling with direct video; like it just increases the line count but then just centers the original video inside of the larger resolution rather than drawing every line twice (which is what scandoubler does on the analog out)

YPbPr broken as of recent update

Hello, One of the setups I used for my Mister was a component trinitron. I used the VGA board to send YPbPr to it via a vga to component adapter and I'd flip the SOG switch and everything would work perfectly. Now it seems to display only a purple tint on this display which suggests to me the switch to YPbPr is not working (as I'll get a correct bl...

Ah yeah, found the jumper. I actually learned what a jumper is doing this just now. It slid off and went to the other pegs easily. I was startled when I botted it up though and it sounded like a jet engine! It turns out, the jumper came configured on the 3V and I just moved it to the 5V! Oh well, I moved it back but now I guess if I want it to be s...

Re: How to Reduce Fan Voltage?

To my recollection, the IO board has a jumper to set the fan voltage to 5.0 volts or 3.3 volts. My set has already a switch to select one or the other speed, I guess this switch is connected in lieu and place of the jumper. Pay attention that maybe not all 5.0 volts fans are capable to start to turn with 3.3 volts. Edit: Found the confirmation of ...

How to Reduce Fan Voltage?

I have a stock fan, and I'm pretty sure it runs at 5v by default. I see a lot of people mentioning "running fans at 3.3v" to reduce fan speed since with a decent heat sync you're probably fine on cooling. I thought it might be a nice way of reducing noise without needing to buck up and get a Noctua. How is this done?

You can use playstation lightguns as they were used in the OG games via SNAC so this would include Guncon 1 for guncon games and justifier for justifier games or 3rd party controllers for both. Guncon is used in more games and patches for Justifier only games exist to make them work with Guncons. this is the best option if you have a crt and want a...

I think you'd get similar results just pushing OLED brightness up on the SDR picture preset. I always worry about rounding errors when forcing color information to new containers like this. Like the gaps between the discrete brightness levels won't be preserved and you're more likely to see banding than you would if you just kept it in the native c...

Hey I don't think the extra memory card slots on a multitap ever do anything.
