Re: PSX Core Doesn't Boot

Just in case anyone is setting up a new MiSTer in 2024 or later and googled this, i thought i'd point out that update_all doesn't grab the PSX bios files, even if you turn on the option to grab bios files. PSX must not be included in the script - you need to do it manually.

Re: OpenBOR for MiSTer

Looking at the PRDoom script it specifies the vmode for 640 480 and you are not finding issues at that resolution with a CGA monitor? Last time I tried something like that I blew up a nano chassis. Well to be fair I believe the mister must be doing something special... I think it converts it to 640x240 for analog out. I guess you could try using t...

Re: OpenBOR for MiSTer

It's regular 15khz (no multisync) - it's a nano MS9 (common in astro cities and some other candy cabs). Changing the resolution is better but still horizontally squished. I think it's more an issue with how games run from scripts work, the only game that really looks great that i run in that mode is prDoom and that allows you to pass video paramete...

Re: OpenBOR for MiSTer

The reason I lock down the CRT resolution is to prevent damage to the CRT itself if a higher resolution was defined within their module and via the OpenBOR_CRT script (vmode) we have protection from damaging the CRT as the app would just exit. If your CRT supports higher resolution then you would need to modify the CRT script to the following: vmo...

Re: OpenBOR for MiSTer

Is there anyway to change the resolution for CRT? Changing it in the launch script doesn't seem to have any effect.

Most Mistercade users on 15khz would use 480x240 (prdoom via framebuffer looks great at this res)

Well, this is a nice feature, but it surely does add lots of latency, right??
If you have your setup close together (mister+pc) it`s certainly totally unnecessary to make use of this.

I did the test video - It's very low latency, i can't notice any at all. Those who have done actual tests put it around 3ms.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Sounds like it's probably the thunderbolt lan adapter, any non-damaged patch cable should work because auto MDI/MDIX is a part of the gigabit spec (auto MDIX handles auto-crossover so physical crossover cables aren't needed). You could try connecting both through your router as long as it's gigabit it should work fine.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I really would like to test that, but how can i connect the pc to the mister directly? do i need a crossover cable or does a normal patch cable work, how would i set up the ip adress? Just a regular patch cable will work fine. On MiSTer: edit /etc/dhcpd.conf, and add these two lines at the end, replacing the ip address with the one you want to use...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

And, would a Pi run Model 2 at good enough fps ? Model 2 is Daytona, Sega Rally Championship, Virtua Cop 1 & 2. etc... Incase anyone is wondering, i tested it and the answer is no - it runs around 20-40% FPS in games i tested on pi 5. I haven't tested a lot of games though. There are faster SBCs out there than the pi 5 though and plenty of min...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Nice! Suggestions are accepted :) I like already that you have the CRT adjust for horizontal and vertical that's awesome! It's always a pain when a core is missing that so to see that already in there is awesome. Suggestion is to add controls and audio to the implementation, but i think you already know that :) Non trivial i'm sure, but i'm cheeri...

Oh thanks, that was the issue. Apologies, i thought you just meant the newest unstable build but that binary is working now.

Pretty cool. It would be awesome if audio and controls get added in the future! :)

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Are you using a MiSTercade or the normal IO board? I tested now and the core isn't outputting anything into the /tmp dir on MiSTer, so i'm not sure whats wrong. If i check the settings it saved verbose logging setting, still saved after a reboot.

Is the MiSTer binary to use MiSTer_unstable_20231229_1871a6 ? From 5 days ago

Re: MiSTercade Vertical setup - Most games upside down?

Old post but i recently got a cab with a vertical screen and had the same issue. There is a number of solutions: 1) Go into the games DIP settings in the MiSTer menu and flip the screen if there is an option 2) In the MiSTer menu flip the screen if there is an option (won't work for some cores via vga) 3) Toggle service mode in the MiSTer menu (if ...

Re: Could We Ever Get 2/4/6 Slot MVS Emulation?

What's the point? The point is to replicate original hardware. Press the next game button and it switches to the cart in the next slot. MAME can load up multiple slots. Plus those machines also had rotating attract mode between the games and a marquee that would light up when said game was on display or being played. NEOGEO cabs were the most deta...

Re: Using the scaler to downscale to 15khz

Well yes, forced_scandoubler=1 will make everything output at least 31khz. Still it is possible that ST analog output will not sync to your arcade monitor. This does not automatically mean the reason is 31khz. There's also 50hz vs 60hz, use a U.S. bios for 60, even then some software will force 50hz. And even sorting that, the blanking settings mi...

Re: Using the scaler to downscale to 15khz

For the Atari ST the original machine was mostly 15khz - i had mine as a kid connected to an old TV, you needed to buy an actual monitor to get higher resolution back then. The only game i ever came across that used a higher res was some tetris clone (i'm sure there are more though..). The Atari ST core however appears to be outputting 31khz via t...

Re: Using the scaler to downscale to 15khz

Atari ST was a 15Khz machine (mostly) and the core outputs it out of the box. It's also possible to do it on ao486 using custom modelines (DOS text won't be 1:1, but is readable, and games are fine). X68000 is a more complicated case, but there were attempts recently trying to do it using modelines as well. For the Atari ST the original machine wa...

Re: Using the scaler to downscale to 15khz

Bringing up an old thread... I've been playing with MiSTer on my arcade monitor and this is still an issue on some cores, AtariST, ao486 and Sharp X68000 (and likely any core that doesn't output native 15khz). I enabled the scaler, however it doesn't seem to scale down quite right. All the text is unreadable. I'm not sure if possible or not but cou...

For those complaining about no de10nano - you can get one from Terasic. It says "out of stock" but it isn't. I ordered one and it shipped and.. it's stuck in Singapore. The point is - i ordered while it was "out of stock" thinking id get one next year, but it shipped the next day.

Don't want to be mister negative here, but mega CD version is pretty bad compared to the arcade. The collision detection when actually playing it just feels bad :(. There are a lot of other versions that are better IMO. It also limits how many enemies can be on screen to i think 4?

Re: CPS1 reboots 90% of the time I try to run a core

If it happens on 2 different MiSTers then it has to be the SD card, or the files on the card. Make a new card from the installer, then run the update scripts, and then the retrodriven script and it should get all the correct files for you.

Currently supernt + sd2snes cart leads In SNES perfection however that combo is like $1000 when you add everything up (Australia dollerydoos). You also just get a SNES, MiSTer exceeds In excellence across many systems. I’m probably going to eBay my supernt combo due to MiSTer.

Might get a second MiSTer to put in a candy cab but that’s a project.

Before MSU1 there are rom patches that have transcribed the audio into text that overlays on the screen.

That sounds good for BS Zelda, but can linux side audio and FPGA core side audio mix together? Usually that's software mixing, would we still get SNES sound effects?
