Re: Quartus synthesis hardware - 2024 edition!

If the E-cores are getting in your way, change the processor affinity, either through the Task Manager or using the START command to launch Quartus. You can also exclude the virtual hyperthreaded cores if you want to too. Just playing around with it on my 12700K with DDR4, excluding the E-cores does actually speed it up slightly, but disabling the ...

8bitdo makes some really good controllers and I love my NES30 and Brawler64. They do make wireless controllers that are compatible with original hardware and should work with SNAC. https://shop.8bitdo.com/products/8bitdo-sn30-wireless-gamepad-for-original-snes-sfc https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Wireless-Gamepad-Original-Transparent-nintendo/dp/B00P5...

Sorry for my silly question.

Some games will play at a more consistent framerate, some will play at higher framerates, some won't have any benefit at all. There's no harm in trying it out and having fun with it.

MiSTer FPiGA maybe?

The only reason I don't like the name is because there are sooo many "pi" devices; orange, banana, raspberry... I'll stop here before I get gross.

It really is unimaginative. It also was likely not already copyrighted.

"All-in-all ao486 is not for TV" - classic Sorg :)

He does have a point, though. By the time 486's came out, costs had come down considerably, PCs had become mainstream, dedicated VGA monitors had become the norm and very few people were using a TV as their main monitor or even attempting to.

Maybe someone could run the SGB emulator in Sodium64 in the N64 core?!

I think that’s how the flux capacitor was conceived

It almost sounds similar to the problems one person has over in this thread, albeit with an LG TV, a RetroTink4k and an HDMI switch, any of which or the core could be the cause or symptom.

I know they wouldn't be easy, but I'd love to see some of the classic laserdisc games. Most or all of the chips already have FPGA implementations, and the games are very well documented--my M.A.C.H.3 cabinet still has its original service manual with complete circuit diagrams for the entire machine--but the video would need to be streamed from the ...

Re: Possible to manually wire some IO Board functionality direct to the DE-10's GPIO pins?

You can use Direct Video, as others have stated, but you need to be careful with the HDMI-VGA adapter. Not all of them support every mode, especially higher than 1080p or lower than 480p, and at limited refresh rates. Also, most lack an audio out jack and many that have one require separate power, usually USB. Definitely do your homework if you wan...

Re: 32MB SDRAM 3 Pins?

I think they are SCL SDA and AnalougeVref can anyone confirm this? The header is the same pinout as an Arduino R3. If it's the 3 pins on the end of GPIO0, then it is SCL, SDA and Analog Vref. If it's GPIO1, then it's 3 analog input pins. It's D0, D1 and D2 on the Arduino header, and those pins are only present on the GPIO0 side. I'm not 100% sure,...

Re: Windows XP

Windows 98 and newer require an x87 math coprocessor, which ao486 lacks due to the 486 core already taking up nearly the entire FPGA. Windows 2000 and newer require instructions that were introduced with the Pentium, which also features an on-die FPU. I've heard of people getting Windows 98 working on MiSTer with a software FPU emulator TSR, but th...

Anyone knows what swap interlaced does? I only get combing artifacts at 480i and thought it might improve things. Don't know if bob is implemented.

It swaps the interlaced fields. Generally leave it turned off unless you're using a CRT at 480i and, even then, you probably want to leave it turned off.

I grew up with PAL, so why would I care about NTSC ? I'm not sure about N64 games but a lot of earlier games were developed for NTSC and weren't actually ported to PAL. They were just slowed down from 30 to 25 fps and letterboxed slightly by adding 50 blank lines top and bottom to account for the difference in resolution. The games actually played...
