Re: MIDI-In Support on the C64 Core?
MIDI In and Out is working and tested in the MiST core, however the MiSTer port of the C64 doesn't have any MIDI support (and Sorgelig has expressed that he doesn't want to port the changes to the core). Here's the relevant MiST commit: https://github.com/mist-devel/c64/commit/0d6edd4b2ab4f90f70255b1c017752b40ba17ca7 . There's also some helpful inf...

Re: Amiga 68030/40?
The entire time everyone has been arguing/theorizing, these have been sitting quietly: https://github.com/AmicableComputers/wf68k30L and https://github.com/svenschnelle/hp300_MiSTer , the second project is a core that uses wf68k30L. Cache, FPU, and MMU are currently not implemented, possibly worth taking a look at implementing CPU cache even if Sof...

Re: VPN on MiSTer
Running a vpn with something like ipxtunnel (https://tldp.org/HOWTO/IPX-HOWTO-15.html), would enable multiplayer network games in ao486 as well, and serves as a great example for “why” someone would want to run a vpn client on-device….

xorg-server xf86-video-fbdev lxqt sddm xorg-xinit should get you there, I was using lxde without sddm and manually running startx to get into the session after editing my .xinitrc to start lxde :) Dual screen is achieved via Analog out to my VGA monitor, I’m using an Analog IO board (this one is from MiSTerAddons.com, a reputable vendor in the com...

Re: MiSTerArch
This is really cool, full xorg gui with a core going and working input via SNAC -and- usb keyboard and mouse input going to the LXDE Desktop at the same time (with zero overhead from the main MiSTer binary)….. Performance is about 1.5x the old Linux Desktop “core”! Working on more now, have mp4 playback working, need to patch an alsa config to get ...

Birdybro/aberu: “ Amstan seems to be respectfully just sharing a personal project, and the MOnSieur team seems to have an agenda born out of personal grievances and saw an opportunity to use Amstan's personal project as a way to advance this agenda. Doesn't seem like a good foundation for a healthy project. I think I'll wait till the MOnSieur team ...

Amstan and Birdybro/aberu: No, by “Shared Folders,” we mean the Shared Folders on the HPS that interface with computer cores such as Amiga/ao486, because it’s useful having your own personal suite of tools to manipulate/augment/process files (think images/audio) before they’re loaded in a program running inside of an FPGA core (or post-processing a...

Could you upload the keyboard/joystick definitions when you get a moment? I have a c64 maxi that I’d like to use with my setup, thanks!

Re: [GUIDE] Direct MIDI IO for ST and Amiga Cores
Hello, I'm building my first MiSTer fpga. I'm planning to use it mainly with Minimig running OctaMed 4.00 & OctaMED Sound Studio. My aim is to get a system with MIDI-latency most close to a real Amiga (Later other uses as well). Is there any difference in speed with Olimex and MiST midi boards? Also are the non-Olimex midi-boards available som...

Re: [GUIDE] Direct MIDI IO for ST and Amiga Cores
Happy Holidays, everyone!! Here are the latest (compiled today, 12/28/2020) UserIO MIDI builds of all three cores. They haven't been merged into Main yet, I believe work has started on getting things merged, however (the final pinout is going to be different in Main, from everything I've heard so far)! I don't want to crosspost these all over the f...

Re: Outboard MIDI
The userio midi (DIY instructions in the ST section here/legacypixels board) is a -lot- tighter, timing wise, especially if you're making music... Here's a set of videos by JimBobMcgee to illustrate:

I’m not sure with games, but using Octamed/ProTracker on the modified Amiga core is zero-configuration as well (like the ST core).... ao486 update incoming!

Re: [GUIDE] Direct MIDI IO for ST and Amiga Cores
Correct; both legacypixels and MickGyver are making ready-made solutions, this is so more people can use the cores now/hopefully the changes can end up in main soon, but wire one up (or ask legacypixels to sell you an early one if you’re in the States or Mick if Europe is closer)!

ao486 is slightly trickier and is being investigated (mpu401/non standard baud rate are involved), mind sharing details for wiring direct pin to gpio on pi? I know some people will find it useful (I’d actually like to know as well)!

Re: [GUIDE] Direct MIDI IO for ST and Amiga Cores
Bruno: I haven’t made a PR because the changes necessary to bring it into main are a bit more complicated than a pull/merge. I wasn’t sure if that would be the thing to do considering menu toggles need to be implemented/it needs to not interfere with MIDILink. I also know Sorg is very busy with ao486, so I didn’t want to add more by creating a PR w...

[GUIDE] Direct MIDI IO for ST and Amiga Cores
Happy 808 Day, everyone!! Got a quick writeup/binaries that'll be of interest to all of the musicians out there! MickGyver edited the MiSTery and Minimig cores to support MIDI via the USER IO port, which makes a gigantic difference with MIDI timing/latency/jitter, and is super easy to wire up! We need a hero like Sorgelig (I know he's super busy wi...

Re: Audio input / sampler
Here's a pretty dirty hack that works, I've tested the output files in Protracker 2.3 on Amiga and Octalyzer for the STe (if using ST, you need to run an ftpd on your ST core and ftp them in or make disk images in Hatari; looking into some sort of shared folder solution for ST) and haven't had any issues: Connect a cheap ($5) USB sound card (genera...
