Re: NFS Support
Found it. mount.cifs is missing. You get this when running cifs_mount.sh mount: /tmp/cifs_mount: bad option; for several filesystems (e.g. nfs, cifs) you might need a /sbin/mount.<type> helper program. and if you check the contents of /sbin: # ls /sbin/mount* /sbin/mount.lowntfs-3g /sbin/mount.ntfs /sbin/mount.ntfs-3g That’s a standard misleading ...

Re: Button Mapping in Terminal/Ported Games
It is normal, whenever the terminal is open, Main MiSTer injects keystrokes on joypad inputs, those are useful for dialog based text user interfaces: the d-pad maps to arrow keys, A=Enter, B=Esc and IIRC L and R map to PgUp and PgDown.
Main MiSTer has no (easy) way to know if it launched a script or ScummVM.
Regrards.

Re: Adding jq to Linux
Did you try to see if there’s a Debian ARM deb package with a compatible pre compiled binary, for downloading+unpacking it just like I did in the updater for unrar binary (and other binaries in other scripts)?

Re: Adding jq to Linux
Alternatively the updater could use a dual strategy: using an hosted db if it exists and it has been recently updater, otherwise doing its usual HTML scrubbing (which I somehow like, because, although being fragile to HTML changes, it can be ported to other hostings without APIs)... I'll think about it. Actually it won't be a strict or high priorit...

Re: Adding jq to Linux
A Github Action only requires a very simple .github/workflows/action.yml file and to point to some script. All within the same repository of Updater_script_MiSTer. It is arguably self-contained indeed. Since that auto generated DB would become an in-MiSTer-devel Github resource like any other you rely on (Wiki, for example). And it would be even m...

Re: Adding jq to Linux
Well, the idea of an external DB has been already discussed in the past, but it goes against the basic, seminal goals of the updater. When I started to write it I had this two basic goals I'd like to mantain in the future: 1) The updater must be self contained and self sustained: it must not to require any additional external resource apart from wh...

Re: Adding jq to Linux
According to some tests (not performed by me) using GitHub API, whenever you use it without being logged with an account (the use case of the updater and other scripts), GitHub throttles you very soon, making this approach not very useful for a script like the updater which must perform many many interactions. The HTML approach, on the other hand, ...

I think you need to take a look at this https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/u-boot_MiSTer/blob/061a2ad76ce64dc752d01102b6cd746359d894a9/include/configs/socfpga_de10_nano.h#L22 Probably you need the memmap parameter... ...but I’m pretty sure you’ll end with a mess: as far as I understand FPGA cores will still use all lower DDR3 512MB and will corrupt Li...

Re: Multiple MiSTers on The Same Network
it's better to use random numbers only for last 6 digits. First 6 is better to keep static. They not only mean some brand ID but also have flags such as multicast, broadcast. The script will assure all the flags are set correctly. Alternatively you can launch echo "$(printf "%012X" $(( 0x$(hexdump -n6 -e '/1 "%02X"' /dev/r...

Re: Loading ROMs Directly from Network?
Try using a terminal (framebuffer terminal or SSH): launch the script and immediately after launch dmesg command. You will see kernel output messages which are more informative. Probably they will tell something about what went wrong.

Re: Multiple MiSTers on The Same Network
Probably you have to change the MAC address too if you use Ethernet. There’s a script for that. Regards. Locutus73 you can also place a text file in the Linux folder on your SD card called u-boot.txt Place the following line in the u-boot.txt (Use whatever Mac Address you like). ethaddr=02:03:04:05:06:01 @Locutus73, does the script create a u-boot...

Try using dmesg command in a ssh terminal after launching the script. You’ll see kernel logs. Usually they are more informative than the mount output messages.

Re: CIFS Mounting - downsides of making writeable?
Are you referring to cifs_mount.sh and cifs_umount.sh? There's no line of code or default option forcing read only monuts in those scripts. I just tested succesfully accessing my Amiga directory (on my NAS) through MiSTer, creating a test.txt file from its Linux ssh terminal, and then reading it afterwards accessing directly the NAS. Regards. Locut...

Re: MiSTer MidiLink
The updater script replaces it without backup. I'll have to ask Locutus72 about doing something to avoid it. What does get updated? MidiLink.INI? If so, I think it happens when Linux is updated, since it comes with the linux dir in the SDInstaller rar. Maybe I could prevent it to be extracted along with ppp_options and maybe _samba.sh. Any suggest...

Re: Updating the MiSTer Main File?
Ok, so there’s a chance your FTP client uploaded main MiSTer in ASCII mode.
Search in the options of your client for something that offers ASCII, Binary and Auto. Probably it’s in Auto mode. Choose Binary and try to upload it again.
