Re: Request Aka to Blue (shmup)

Thanks for the list.
I was afraid something like that would be the case but hopeful the developers used some other hardware for this game, considering it's also on mobile.

Request Aka to Blue (shmup)

There was once a company called Cave that made the best bullet hell shmups in this part of the galaxy. A couple of ex Cave employees then made their own studio and created Aka to Blue; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_FAGZWKVPQ PCB can be bought here: https://exa.ac/product/aka-blue-type-r/?v=0f177369a3b7 The game is supposed to be really good and...

Any recommended HDMI to VGA adapter that comes with Toslink output for audio instead of analog output?

I don't know, it's hard to find a good adapter as it is, let alone to have a digital output.
Just buy an IO board and solve all your problems.

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

I've receiver my IO Direct from Misteraddons, the Saturn version. I have to say, the build quality on the entire thing looks really solid and the three buttons feel good to press. No issues in connecting to the DE10 and inserting power and HDMI bridges, it all falls into place like LEGO bricks. The Saturn cable, which I also ordered from them, also...

What else can I do with an MT32?

So aside from enjoying certain DOS games in their full audio glory, is there anything else I can do with an MT32? I saw that you can load custom sound fonts and change the way music sounds in those DOS games. That sounds cool but is there anything else? For example, can I put MIDI music to the SD card and just listen to it from my Mister? Can I plu...

... you can't have dual SDRAM and VGA out at the same time.

You can but you lose the ability to output HDMI and VGA at the same time, at least on Misteraddon's and Retrocastle's boards because they use the external HDMI bridge.
But the official board doesn't offer this option.

Well the spreadsheet does focus on image quality and nothing else, so I wouldn't call it misleading.
I'm using that same Icybox adapter on a BVM and never noticed any problems though.

I'd rather go straight from HDMI to SCART if possible...

This solution is more clean but you are forced to use the DAC that is in the cable.
If you look at this table, the AG6200, that is inside that cable, is the worst:

Re: What do I need to go from Digital I/O board to SCART on a CRT?

With SCART you gotta be a bit careful, don't buy just any VGA to SCART, there are some pins under voltage and stuff like that. The one Esoteric linked seems ok. But it obviously has a DAC (AG6200) built in. If you want to go the way you described (HDMI to VGA adapter and then cable) so you can choose which DAC to use (I recommend Icybox adapters), ...

Well the type of sync makes no difference in the end, you get the same image regardless of how you handled sync. But of course you are right, PVMs/BVMs are not VGA monitors :) Also, while I have you here, maybe you can help with a weird problem on my A14. When connected to my PC (RTX 4070) via an HDMI>VGA adapter, I get no problems at 480p. But whe...

Re: BVM reports direct video as 480/60i

BVM are not VGA monitor by any means. Well, Martin's clone cards do offer a VGA input and since A and D series of BVMs are multiformat, you could argue that this combination creates a kind of an VGA monitor. Limited of course to 60Hz refresh rate. As for the I/O board, the DAC on the official one really is bad so I have high hopes for the upcoming...

I have an Icybox HDMI>VGA adapter and direct video enabled. There are always two resolutions reported on each game load.
