Re: TapTo Cinema

Interesting, though converting videos has its downsides (and CRT TVs can do better than just 320x240). Would combining it with Mistercast be possible?

Perhaps it's fate saying I don't really need a 3rd MiSTer ;) Maybe you do need a third MiSTer :-) Ha :) It's tempting, but I will pass for now...maybe next year. It's great that the availability has improved and that there are already Batch 3 preorders planned. I was skeptical about all this at first but must admit that Taki handles this operation...

Re: MiSTer Pi

The 2nd batch of MiSTer Pi units goes on sale "on Nov. 19th at 10am HKT (UTC +8) / Nov. 18th at 9:00pm EST".

This means morning in Asia, evening in the USA, and middle of the night in the good ol' Europe. So I'm out of the contest again. Perhaps it's fate saying I don't really need a 3rd MiSTer ;)

Re: Atari Jaguar Core

I've asked the dev (greyrogue) about this core's accuracy and compatibility on another forum, and he was kind enough to provide a couple of very in-depth replies, that went even past the original question. It's a rather interesting read which you can find here. The short of it is that most games should be, in greyrogue's words, "close enough t...

Re: Atari Jaguar Core

I don't have the link handy, but there is a compatibility Google sheet going and something like 82% of the library is currently marked as playable. I've been testing it myself and just about everything I've thrown at it works...seems like there's only a few official titles left that don't boot at all. That's great, but once again, "playable&q...

Re: Atari Jaguar Core

Dual ram costs money. Before jumping in, perhaps it'd be wise to wait for a compatibility chart or at least a bit more information about how this core performs. A few comments about how games "work" or are "playable" isn't really saying much.

Re: TRS-80 Core Has Moved

Modify the "load CMD" command. I love this command. It is a genius idea. But it can't work. If I am not wrong about how it's done, it forces the Z80 into an address after loading the CMD file in memory without any caution, and this just will work only by luck (you know, init SP, DI, etc...). Beside this, sometimes a CMD needs more than o...

Re: QMTech MiSTer Not Working on VGA Monitor

Check this thread if you haven't already: https://www.misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=7516 Overall, it should work with scandoubler and without (just use VGA scaler then). If it's only Donkey Kong 2 that is causing problems, it's possible it's using some weird resolution (though it's unlikely for SNES). I'm not near my VGA atm so can't test this, ma...

Make sure you also have direct_video=1
With that, using scandoubler should be optional (I prefer to avoid it).

One of these posters made a good point though: is there any other place (apart from Discord) where updates are advertised?

Or, in other words, are we up to speed with updates in that thread overall? I always thought it's very reliable, but one of them suggested we might be missing out?

Hello again, I got the puu core working on a lcd. I didn't read that the puu core is locked on 800×600, that's why I couldn't get it to work on my crt... Just for the record, you can actually display this core on a 15KHz CRT, but you have to use modelines . The results are not always pretty, because of this machine's wide range of display modes, b...

Re: Taki's Handheld MiSTer Device

We are spoilt for choice for cheap Chinese handhelds right now That's true, and I'm currently mulling over Anbernic's RG 35XX H or 40XX H. They have just started a Halloween sale which knocks an additional 10 USD off their already pretty decent prices (so the 40XX H is 57 USD). I'm mostly looking to use it for microcomputer cores so, yes, MiSTer w...

Thanks for the info. I'm kind of looking at some handhelds at the moment and so was interested in this option. But it looks like he has a long way to go with this, seein' as even the MiSTer Pi thing has stalled. Also, I get a feeling it might be kinda big (Switch Lite size is "big" for me) so not really my kind of handheld.

I have yet to see a set in Europe which would have S-Video but not RGB. Imo, in this situation it's always better to use RGB, since S-Video looks nearly identical, only a bit worse. So there's no real reason to use it, unlike composite, which does offer a different "look".

Re: Colecovision Save States Request

My thought is that any core would be better with save states ;)

But it's not exactly a novel idea, and I'm pretty sure all the devs are aware of the popularity of such request (just look at the reaction to SNES core). So, it's clearly not a trivial thing to implement, and in some cases probably impossible due to hardware limitations.

Re: MiSTer Specific Raspberry Pi 4 vs 5 Questions?

Are there any VGA hats for Rpi 4/5?

I'm out of the loop with RPi things now, but last time I checked there weren't any, and getting a decent CRT image required jumping through some serious hoops (unlike on RPi 3). That was couple or so years ago though, so maybe (well, most likely) the situation has changed.

From a quick skim of this thread, you might need 040, and do some other things.
Also, I needed to set 64MB Z3 RAM in WinUAE to just get to the decrunching screen.

Re: Is it possible to play physical zx spectrum next games?

It seems they deliver it on a SD card, and also mention digital download. So I guess you can just transfer the file to the games/zxnext directory (or put it on the vhd? I don't remember exactly) on your MiSTer SD.

I'd ask them first if it works on MiSTer, to be 100% sure though, since there might be some OS or other differences.

Would it be possible to simply have 2 input ports option in core/OSD, where we could choose which device to mount? And have the core detect 2 USB mice? Your problem sounds like this old sync issue: https://www.misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?p=55222#p55222

So basically you will need to use an extra adapter if you want to use Direct Video and modelines.

This problem doesn't exist when using I/O board, so maybe it's worth considering getting one.

I don't really think that's the case at all. It's a developer wanting to scratch an itch, VERY few are "community-motivated" and a great many have abandoned projects altogether as a result. Even if some developer is just "wanting to scratch an itch", how can expressing interest in his work be harmful? Can you point me to exampl...

If you say so, but it goes against common sense and most people's experiences.

And this kind of gatekeeping can keep people from engaging with the community, especially on a niche forum which is already pretty quiet as it is.

It will be done if and when and asking for it to happen wont make it occur any faster,

People expressing interest in something (cores in this case) can absolutely be a motivation for the developer and result in resuming work, faster completion, etc.

Re: Analogue 3D is available to preorder

Theoretically, 4K allows for better use of shaders / upscaling to represent the "CRT look". How it works in practice remains to be seen, although their (as per usual) borderline religious marketing pronouncements about "the unmistakable essence of a CRT." and "true CRT reference quality" made me chuckle.
