Thanks, really appreciate the detailed reply! The Ultimate Mister language wasn''t exactly clear to me - it says not to use a level shifter but not why. Unfortunately they're sold out of the SNES port, which is the one I am most interested in.

Thanks, the MT32-Pi Lite has a heatsink and a thermal pad but no active cooling. I still don’t understand why it continues to get warm even when it’s not in use, however. Can the SNAC port be temporarily switched off through software, I wonder?
I’ll need to check and see what’s considered a safe maximum temperature for the Pi Zero 2W.
You need to consent in the options to allow the update-all script download the bios files. I wasted a lot of time troubleshooting much more complex solutions until I figured this out.
