Lemmings palette problems in "High Performance PCs" mode

Unread post by vanfanel »

Hi there,

The original Lemmings for DOS offers a mode for "High Performance PCs". That mode was the "intended way" to play on any VGA PC back in the day, as it offered smooth mouse movement and better colors, almost as good as the Amiga version.

However, on the AO486 core (latest stable version, also tried latest nightly version) there's some palette problem when using this mode.
The game seems to do mid-frame palette changes, and the timing seems to be incorrect, so the game shows different colors for half the gaming area.

Is that something that can be solved somehow by fiddling with options, TSRs, AUTOEXEC.BAT/CONFIG.SYS arcane magic, etc? Lemmings is.. well, the DOS game classic, if you ask me.

Very interested in this. I've been trying, trying, trying and failing to get Lemmings in this mode working.

All you have to do is select the "High Performance PCs" option, or launch the executable with the

Code: Select all

/v /o

parameters.
But as I said, seems to be broken on the core.

I know how it works on a PC. I mean: to get this to work on the AO486 core.
