So my wifi dongle stopped working and was really hot. Not sure if it was a shoddy dongle or perhaps the power supply I'm using is underpowering the device?
I have the USB and power supply from misteraddons and it uses the barrel splitter and switch.

Same thing happened to me with an Edimax EW-7822ULC, using the same USB hardware board. Had to RMA it with Edimax.

Personally I stopped using wifi, it was unreliable and slow through the usb hub 2.1. The modules were also getting very very hot, so something is mishandled by the current usb hub, at least for me, and the connections were very slow (10Mb/s max, but most of the time slower) on a 802.11ac Asus Nano AC53 for instance. i also have the tp-link and the canakit adapter, same issues. Bizarre. So I use a wifi to ethernet bridge now:
