Private Messages Sitting in the Outbox Forever

...without being dispatched. Unless I'm blocked at the same time by all users to my ignorance, something's maybe misconfigured in phpBB.

I did nothing wrong to offend the whole population, I swear! :P

I believe it means that the receiver has not opened it yet.

This is totally normal. The private message stays there until it has been read by the recipient, this allows you time to edit or delete it beforehand. Once it has been read by the recipient it moves into your sent messages list.
