1440P & Overscan [Solved]

Hi,

I have a 1440P monitor and I use 1920x1440 as main resolution and vscale_mode=1

with the pc engine core I was hopping near a full height like the others core as 1440 seems a good ratio.

For example with the game final match tennis:
Basically with the overscan option set to "hidden" I have the full height but it looks like some lines are missings (I cannot see the foot on the top):

If I set overscan to "visible" it seems ok but the screen is reduce like on my 1080P LCD in fact :

Did I miss something?

It is like the overscan is on 224 lines standard only without the possibility for the extended 239 lines (maybe an option I missed ?)

What's that godly 1440p monitor that can do all these things, may I ask?

the overscan options are the ones inside the pc engine core , not from the monitor which has nothing special (4:3 ratio option and that all)

There is nothing wrong with this situation.

The "overscan = Hidden/Visible" options in the core are there for two reasons:
1) In the case where active display is started late or ended early, leaving black non-display areas, it informs the scaler to fill the screen based on the display area only.
2) In some rare cases like this one, the game was programmed with... a bug. The "feet" at the top of the screen are indeed part of the active display area, but are not intended to be drawn, as they are within the first couple of lines of the screen - these would have been obscured by the picture tube's mounting on TV sets of the era.

In some cases, these same lines were used to display scores, sometimes requiring the game player to adjust their TV set to make them visible (but this didn't seem like such a big deal to us back in the day).

So basically, sometimes they need to be displayed, and sometimes displaying them puts a programming bug (of the original game) on display.

thank you very much for this explanation

so as I just want an "old CRT screen on LCD" experience I will just stay with the overscan set to hidden.

you are right about the fact at time we played with what we had as TV tube without asking itself questions :)
