Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board

Yup, and make sure and turn up overdrive all the way. It will remove any latency and get it very close to a CRT.
what do you mean by "turn up overdrive all the way"?
to make work the minimig, nes, sns and megacd cores i had to add this to the MiSTer.ini :
[minimig]
vsync_adjust=0
[nes]
vsync_adjust=0
[snes]
vsync_adjust=0
[megacd]
vsync_adjust=0

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
@steveskr, It's just regular PLA+ in the colors I had available as I did end up finishing it with filler, sanding, and painting silver. If I were to sell something like that I would want to correct many of the flaws. It's also a 24 hour print and takes about half a spool of material so I am not sure I could keep the cost down to something that wouldn't be an insult to people. It's just a hobby for me.
@pokodono, there is a setting on the LCD itself in the menu called "Overdrive", make sure it is turned on, then there is a sub setting for how much 1-100, and you want that all the way up to 100. That will decrease the latency of the display down to less than 1 frame.

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
I bit the bullet and ordered one. I have 2 questions:
What are the recommended video settings in MISTer?
What is the audio sample rate?
Edit: Bonus question
I intend to build a self contained system but would like the possibility of also using an external monitor/TV. I have been thinking of using an HDMI manual switch. Does anyone as any recommendation on a good quality one?

thanks steveskr! Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
I received the screen this week and tested it yesterday, beautiful screen!
I have everything lying on my desk and it is a mess but it was just for testing.
In also ordered an audio amp: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087PG2LVY/
I connected it to the audio out of the HDMI board and horror! Hum.
I guessed it was due to EMI coming from the screen/controller. I tried, with not much hope, to connect it to the audio out of MISter: hum.
I powered down everything and reconnected my regular HDMI monitor with the audio amp still connected to MISTer. Besides the loud clacks when starting a core there is absolutely no hum.
It looks like this thing will need a lot of shielding/use of chokes in order to put everything in one box.
Did any of you have the same experience and what was your solution?

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
Same power adapter that is powering both the display and the amp? Does it do anything different with two power supplies? Could try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K50HJE/ But now the parts are getting a bit ridiculous.

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
Yes, same PS for display and amp which is also something I have been thinking about and why I mentioned using chokes. I will dig in my junk box to see if I have a spare one but first I want to make some kind of frame to install the screen and the controller. As it is it is too much of a mess and I am afraid to let the smoke come out. I still believe it comes from the screen/controller as every LCD monitor I have opened has always a shield covering the electronics. I have some laptop PS which deliver 18-19V and would be usable for the amp and deliver more Watts but at 12V it is more than enough for such a small screen

Hi All,
I'm trying to get my ipad screen to work. Mister @1080p is working but 1536p not. PC @1536p is working btw. I've tried 4-5 hdmi cable but no luck. Any suggestion?

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
I believe my problem is lying within MiSTer not the driver board or display:
- When i've changed to mister_alt_1.ini display shows static image.
- If i try to rollback to mister.ini nothing changes.
- If i restart the mister via IO boards button ps3 joypad lose connectivity and won't connect anymore.

Sneak peek at a 3d model I'm currently working on. I'd say it's about 90% done, currently just stuck with a few tweaks and reprints until I'm happy. As of right now, everything but the front bezel piece fits pretty well. Will be available with a 100mm VESA style mount with captive M3 nuts, or with a desktop stand. Uses M2 self-tapping screws for assembly (12x 4mm, 25x 8mm most likely).

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
Anybody have problems with flickering when running at 2048x1536 (13)? Even just sitting on the menu, my panel will occasionally go blank and then come right back on sporadically. On average I'd say every 10 seconds or so. If I set to other resolutions it's rock solid--so far I've tried 12, 6, and 4 and they all work. Oddly, it won't sync at all with 1024x768 (1), which is odd since that's the most obvious resolution that should work fine aside from the native.
I can live with 1920x1440 and interpolation on, but I'm not in love with it. Would love it if anyone has any advice.
Things I've tried:

Did you turn overdrive all the way up? How is your cooling on your mister? DVI mode on for sure.

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
Changing to a different video mode from this thread seems to have done the trick, at least with vsync adjust=0. 1 or 2 cause flickering in most cores, even with overdrive on and cranked to 100.
Edit: Looks like I spoke too early. Still lots of flickering/desync with the other 2048x1536 modelines. Dropping down to 1920x1440 definitely works just fine, but 2048x1536 just doesn't seem to work. Will pick up a new HDMI cable, in the off chance that all the ones I have laying around just can't handle the higher bandwidth.

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
Yes, you have to search for the LP097QX1 reference.
Maybe if you buy the controller board and the screen separately you can get a better price.

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
I have a board that looks basically identical to that one. It works great but it _needs_ a heatsink of some kind. That main chip gets very hot.
Other sellers of that board include a heatsink. For whatever reason mine did not. I happened to have a spare parts heatsink so I lucked out.

Re: Ipad 3/4 Display with HDMI converter board
Does anybody have a board that lets you use widescreen aspect ratios? The LCD board I have has the option but its greyed out (like a lot of other options), it would be nice to use this screen with other devices.
