ini settings for both HDMI and VGA simultaneously

Unread post by Jimiga »

Hi all! My question is about simultaneous HDMI + VGA output from MiSTer.

I have great working .ini files for both my 1920x1200 LCD monitor (from HDMI), and my CRT TV (from I/O board VGA-Component). I toggle between these two .ini files depending on what I'm playing on.

I understand that you can output both HDMI simultaneously, but I don't know how to combine the settings into one ini file to get the display working correctly on both at once. Searched the forum but can't find this topic specifically.

Thanks in advance!

Both outputs are always the same. You can't have different settings running at the same time as far as I know.

Thank you, that makes sense. I should still be able to make it work well and if not it's no real issue, just learning! Thanks for your input!

You can output separate "direct" and "scaled" video over VGA I/O and HDMI respectively as long as vga_scaler=0. Most display related settings only apply to the HDMI scaler, with the cores directly handling the analog VGA output that approximates an original system. Meanwhile settings like csync or ypbpr should only apply to the VGA out.

There's a handful of cores that don't output direct analog (like AO486), and if you wanted to use vga_scaler anyway for more control over your CRT, you're out of luck because there's only one scaler available for use.
