Re: Atari 7800 Core
Rysha/Kitrix said she would do the 7800 after finishing the 2600, but problem is she isn't terribly motivated to finish the 2600. I don't think it is a fun core to work on.
It's a real shame, as they are popular and big consoles. Maybe Sorg, or another dev, will tag team with her at some point and they will knock them out in a weekend. I know what it's like when you have a big project that isn't fun to work one and are doing it on your own.

Atari 7800 has been updated by over there in the discord. By Rysha
The new build is very good now. The older builds where tarrable. New build plays mostly everything.
It's barley a beta build now. but still alpha. looks like it may get a release some time soon.
They said look for Trebors_7800_ROM_PROPack. it works better as the headers are better or something. got smokes pack games running fine thou.
I have uploaded it for you guys. same one's from discord.

Re: Atari 7800 Core
I read it was Rysha's side project. Just something she worked on on her free time.
She just decided to put a bunch of work into it just recently. I think most games play fine.
Hope it gets officially released with some more fixes soon.

Re: Atari 7800 Core
The version shared above is old now. There was a problem with video that was fixed on the 17th. I recommend waiting until it's released.
Re: Atari 7800 Core
try it on the hdmi tv. It's still alpha stages.
Wait for release i guess. Just hope it does.
Whatever one's i found on discord i snatched up. If you got newer one please share.

It's dangerous to go unheadered. Take this!

You can use this bps patch to add the header to FoxBox.bin (or whatever you have the rom named)

Re: Atari 7800 Core
What a great core. I love the color temperature option, with Hot the picture has the same colours as on my PAL machine on a CRT. Many thanks.
I noticed that the Pokey demos from the Trebor Pack don't work. Any chance to get them playing?

Re: Atari 7800 Core
I actually debugged this for quite a while and discovered the issue is that they don't work on real hardware. Some flash carts may pre-initialize things they need, but it's actually an accuracy that they don't work, not a bug. I believe they won't work on Dragonfly cart either.Chris23235 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 10:29 am What a great core. Re: Atari 7800 Core
There are many dumps of atari 7800 bioses, but usually the 4kb NTSC one is the best and the 16kb PAL one. If you choose to use a bios you will have to switch it between PAL and NTSC games. Additionally some homebrew games, like Defender, will break if you use a BIOS due to incorrect signatures. Alternatively you can skip the bios and all games will work.pgimeno wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 11:27 am The MAME archive contains three roms:Which one should I install as boot0.rom?Code: Select all

Re: Atari 7800 Core
It says that 2600 is not yet enabled, which hints that it is a planned feature. Considering that there is already a standalone Atari 2600 core, what would be the advantage of enabling the backwards compatibility for the 7800 core?

Re: Atari 7800 Core
To behaves as the original hardware which allowed the use of most 2600 games. To me this is important even if there is a A2600 core.12characters wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 2:54 pm It says that 2600 is not yet enabled, which hints that it is a planned feature. Re: Atari 7800 Core
The current 2600 core has issues. The potential here would be to have a more accurate 2600.12characters wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 2:54 pm It says that 2600 is not yet enabled, which hints that it is a planned feature. Re: Atari 7800 Core
Since a 7800 is basically a 2600 with one extra chip, I would like to add full 2600 support to it as well. While the current 2600 core does pretty well, it does have various issues, is written in VHDL, and doesn't use clock enables, which makes things like pausing the core more difficult. I decided to write my own RIOT and TIA in addition to the Maria chip, so it only makes sense to get the 2600 part of things polished up as well.12characters wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 2:54 pm It says that 2600 is not yet enabled, which hints that it is a planned feature.
