The monochrome screen gets upscaled for the HD screen, but this upscaling doesn‘t look very good.
I‘d like exact double height and width. So original 640x400 should be upscaled to 1280x800. That should look much better.
Or is there something in the setup menu that I missed?
Monochrome Display on Full HD Screen
Re: Monochrome Display on Full HD Screen
Have you set vscale_mode=0 to vscale_mode=1 in the mister.ini? This enables integer scaling.
Re: Monochrome Display on Full HD Screen
I tried all four modes.
But all modes look bad.
In the end mode=0 (scaling to max size) works best.
When using vscale_mode=2 i'd expect a 1:2 scaling.
One pixel on Atari SM124 ist 2x2 pixel on HD screen.
Result should be 1280x800 pixel are used on HD screen.
??
The Atari monochrome screen on the Emulator HATARI looks great (when ist starts).
Every pixel from Atari SM124 is one pixel in emulator window.
Very tiny, but very crisp and sharp.
I have not seen this on MiSTer.
When I upscale the resolution e.g. to full screen on HATARI there are same problems than in MiSTer.
But don't waste time on this problem.
Full screen quality is ok for me.
It was only a question if there is an option to have exactly square pixels also when upscaling.

Re: Monochrome Display on Full HD Screen
The 640x400 output of the Atari ST is an anamorphic (ie. "non-square pixels") resolution, if you were to scale it to 1280x800 you would get the wrong aspect ratio.
vscale_mode=1 will use integer scaling for the vertical resolution but free scaling for the horizontal resolution, which is a somewhat acceptable compromise for most cases.
Have you enabled a video filter? You should have at least interpolation enabled. Also, as personal preference, I like to use the composite filter on computer cores with a monochrome display, as it makes moiré effects from dithering less apparent.

Re: Monochrome Display on Full HD Screen
These days the atari core has HV integer scaling so if you really want 1:1 pixels and don't mind a weird AR, you can do it!

Didn't actually realize I was replying to a 9 month old thread lol. This forum's low activity throws me off sometimes...
Re: Monochrome Display on Full HD Screen
In the scale menu is a new menu point ‚HV-Integer-‚.
And Aspect must be ‚Original‘
Using this options does exactly what I mean.
It doubles the Atari monochrome screen and puts it in the middle of the HD screen.
Every Atari pixel is blown up to exact four pixels (2x2) on the HD screen.
That looks very good.
So, issue solved.
(sorry for my late response)
