I'm going to root for the underdog and say Saturn.
I know it's tricky hardware to replicate, but I believe they've got 'Bug' running already

I'm a big fan of the Saturn as it's my favourite console, but seeing as I have mine still up and running with a mode in I will root for PS1. I've never had one so look forwards to playing it.

This is not a race and with recent burnout events I would just avoid these childish discussions, who cares really, let's support them to do a great job without too much stress, while they are hopefully enjoying what they are doing.

Please remember if you wish to support any of these developers financially they can be supported via Patreon, they are doing excellent work!
Let us also not forget the founder of the MiSTer Project also has a Patreon.

Guys, get your stick out of your asses, this is a topic made for fun à la 5th gen console war style.

Whatever, Saturn core is late anyways!

Now take into account that the last 5% cost 95% of the time

Voting against PS1 means Crash Bandicoot showing up to insult you. You might be able to go get tacos with him or something, though. Voting against Saturn may bring Segata Sanshiro. That's not a guy you anger. To save myself bodily harm, I vote for Saturn.
Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
Well its hard to tell. Personally I am super excited for both.
As far as I can tell Saturn is nearing completion with games booting.. I saw Earthworm Jim and Bug and I believe they are being ran from the Mister.
PSX was discontinued from the first couple devs, there was a fallout as far as I know and while some people say Laxer is still working on it I have not seen anything official and as far as I understand it the core was being developed on different FPGA hardware and not specifically the Mister. I don't know how compatible they would be.
PSX is also being picked up by FPGAZUMSPASS which is really exciting to see progress again, however he is not using any of the code from the previous dev as far as I know, the videos posted online are from a software emulator he is writing (prior to working on the FPGA core) as I understand it he gets it going in software first so he gets a feel and understanding for it and then starts the FPGA development. The software emulator is written in such a way that it lends itself to the capabilities of the mister and how chips and clock cycles interact with each other... I may be totally wrong here.. These devs are much smarter than I am.
So its probably safe to say Saturn is further along, but that doesn't mean it will be done first. It all comes down to time from the devs and the difficulty involved as well as the documentation \ resources available for the hardware.
In my opinion PSX emulation is much further along with many choices for PC with amazing accuracy.. There may very well be a great trove of knowledge that can be used in aid of making the PSX Core.
Saturn emulation is still lacking on PC with not many choices and from what I have experienced some emulators play some games better than others while some are not supported at all. Im very much looking forward to a Saturn core and seeing how compatible it is as it is a system I never had much experience with outside of software emulation.
PSX on the other hand has such a vast library, I owned one and have many fond memories of it.
All in all, I dont care which is first and Im just so happy these cores are being worked on.

Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
I'll bet saturn. Keen to see both, but at least with PS1 games you can still play them on PS2 or PS3 if your console has the compatibility; its far easier to still play the games on "real hardware".
Saturn is a lot more niche and has @sorgelig working on it so... i feel it's both (currently, whilst ps1/ps2/ps3 hardware is still easy to find alive) more valuable to have available, and more likely to drop sooner.

Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
Srg320 is not Sorgelig; two different people
Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
Ah yes my mistake. Memory hazy. I knew they were different people but mis remembered who was working on the core.
Still. I think srg320 will get it over the line first!
Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
I bet on srg320, this guy
is a war machine, watch what he has already achieved and all in record time.

Saturn core to release 6 months early with no prior warning, the lack of hype leading it to be an underpowered let down and be hardly used in 2-3 years time.
playstation core to get it just right and be a smash success

Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
Hmmm, does srg320 have a weirdly antagonistic relationship with his overseas counterpart who is pushing their 32X core instead?
If that's the case, then when the 32X, Saturn, and Playstation cores all drop within 12 months of each other people will be confused about which one to get, until word of mouth about the Playstation core completely crushes all the competition.
Man, imagine a world where srg320 had made a Saturn core that also played 32X games out of the box, or even just a world where he and his partner had worked together instead of constantly butting heads about which hardware to recreate next. Maybe if the 32X core had been cancelled, and all their attention was focused instead on the Saturn core, they would have stood a better chance against Playstation and been in a better position when they launched their Dreamcast core. Oh well,

They are referring to Sega of America vs Sega of Japan during the launch of the Saturn and the handling of the 32X.
It was a bit bungled to say the least.

I am really excited for both of these cores. My gut is telling me Saturn will be first, Might be time to sell off my entire collection... I thought we wouldn't see Saturn/PS for years, crazy how quick this is happening.

Re: Place your virtual bets, PS1 or Saturn, which core will get released 1st?
Saturn is definitely coming first. Robert mentioned that his goal is to get 1 game playable on the PS1 core before the end of the year, w/out audio. srg320 has 3 games playable already (Earthworm Jim 2, Bug and Daytona USA) and all 3 w/ audio even though it’s already broken. Plus he has a 6-8 month head start. Srg320 Will most likely be first. Saturn probably in mid-2022 and PS1 in late 2022. Incredible efforts and massive kudos to both these geniuses!

I cant help feel a Sega Neptune core would provide the exisiting Sega fans with a way to stay with the brand and provide the upgrade neededMr. Encyclopedia wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 7:03 pm Hmmm, does srg320 have a weirdly antagonistic relationship with his overseas counterpart who is pushing their 32X core instead?

I prefer that one core releases well before the other, so we have time to (re)explore the libraries I don't mind which one comes first, both will be loved.
