Secret Game Being Worked on for the MiSTer Input Tester!

Unread post by Xbytez »

Our arcade high score save state hero and input tester dev JimmyStones (@mrjimmystones) has been working on what is likely to be a new 'secret' game for the MiSTer input tester!

Really cool! A bit of a MiSTer fantasy console or arcade machine.

looks pretty, is the game pure logic or is it a cpu & ppu that runs the game code?

It's a single Z80 running the game code - the sprites, collision, starfields, and character map are all custom hardware logic (and sound/music are in there too, just not hooked up because I can't make music :P)

Never before has my pixel art been called pretty but I'll take it :D

well if you threw in some random enemy spawns and maybe a different font like the old coin up manufacturers used then it could well pass for an (unreleased) arcade game?

for the music part i'd say maybe rip something from another game? ;)

It uses a YM2149 (courtesy of Jotego's jt49 module) with a custom hardware player that supports tunes in YM5/6 format, and I have tested it with some classic Atari ST dumps so I know it works...but there is currently nothing (that I am aware of) in the core that is not open-source or created by me, and I'd rather keep it that way :D

If anyone can make YM2149 compatible music out there and fancies making something that'd be cool though ;) Better than whatever my efforts will turn out to be I'm sure!

That would be superb! Meanwhile I need to figure how to make a few sound effects using the other YM2149 :?:

Just feed it some bass line loop from a classical piece. No reason to over think it.
