Aimtrak Lightgun support?

Unread post by eewoke »

Hi,

Is the Aimtrak lightgun suported by Mister? Using guncon 2 is very nice on crt, but playing on big lcd/led/oled or even bigger projector screens would be even more awesome.

Thanks!

Tried, but unfortunately I can not see the crosshairs when calibrating. The gun and trigger work, but not the calibration after holding the trigger for 5 seconds. The crosshairs seem to be outside of the visible screen. Do you need to use a specific resolution?

Thanks!

I just got a AimTrak light gun pretty cheaply and paired with a "Extreme IR Bar " it seems to work well on my LCD TV and PC games and emulators with the proper setup, however it refuses to work on the MiSTer FPGA, I followed the instructions at:

How to use your Mouse as a Lightgun - MiSTer FPGA How-To
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXdZwcgRehk

and was able to use my mouse has a light gun in a SNES game, but has soon has I try to use the AimTrak light gun the cross hairs disappear and do not come back until I try the computer mouse again, I did some Google searching and remembered that the AimTrak light gun had a GunCon mode, basically you hold both (A) and (B) buttons when you connect the AimTrak light gun to a USB port and it will switch to emulating a GunCon, and I found this video over here:

Use a GunCon 2 with the MiSTer FPGA!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0F8KnqeOd8

and then installed the files from "https://github.com/NolanNicholson/GunCon2-MiSTer" and now I get tracking in games with the AimTrak light gun in GunCon mode, but I cant seem to configure the trigger button.

Has anyone else got this working?

I tried getting the AimTrak light gun to work on the MiSTer FPGA today, I tried downloading the "input_d209_1601_v2.map" from kitrinx on atari-forum.com at:

https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.p ... a93e60a597

and putting it into:

"MiSTer_Data/config/inputs"

and tried setting the AimTrak light gun has a joystick and the trigger has a mouse button in the NES core, and never got the AimTrak light gun to respond in any way, BTW I found a large ammount of MiSTer FPGA Input Maps over at:

https://github.com/misteraddons/Mister-Input-Maps

but sadly nothing that would help with the AimTrak light gun.

BTW I also have a "SAMCO - Arduino Powered IR Light Gun" you can see the details over at:

https://github.com/samuelballantyne/IR-Light-Gun

and I am using the "SAMCO Prow Enhanced - Arduino Powered Light Gun" firmware that you can find over at:

https://github.com/Prow7/ir-light-gun

and I also can not get it to work with MiSTer FPGA.

I reset my MiSTer FPGA back to the original files, and then ran the update script, and tried a GUN4IR gun with the NES Duck Hunt game and the SNES Super Scope game, and it worked in both of them, but the tracking was off, I had to use the on-screen cross-hair to see were I was aiming, BTW the AimTrek gun also started working, but the AimTrek gun had even worse tracking, I believe the tracking problems are related to the video mode, both guns are calibrated at the Windows PC desktop at a resolution of 1920x1080.

BTW if anyone is wondering, the AimTrek gun seems to have a better tracking than a Wii Remote, and the GUN4IR gun has amazing tracking, but that's when they are used on a PC

Only had my Mister for a few days, so forgive my lack of knowledge here. But, since a mouse can be used as a light gun, could an Air-Mouse work ?
I take it, the GunCon Gun method has to have composite video to work ?
I have a DroiX G10S Air-Mouse, somewhere, I might try and find it and give it a try, then report back.

At that point you would be better off with a Wii Remote and one of the many plastic gun shells for it.

Something to note, I got a "AtGames Legends Gamer Mini Console" that comes with a very nice arcade stick and is said to support light guns, and has built in support for the AimTrek light guns, however I ran into the same problems, I was able to get tracking in "mouse mode" but the trigger would not work, and in "joystick mode" the trigger would work but not the tracking, BTW the little hockey puck shaped computer that runs the games and comes with the "AtGames Legends Gamer Mini Console" is said to run Linux.

The Airmouse worked rather better than I had hoped, although you need one with an adjustable DPI button, as some systems are more sensitive than others. It's just the "Feel" was wrong, and felt awkward. So, perhaps a cheap Airmouse mounted in a plastic gun shell.

Not composite video, but composite sync. Requires a CRT display capable of standard definition (15Khz).
