Retro City Rampage

Unread post by lomdar67 »

I hope this is not to much off topic...

Did anyone try to play Retro City Rampage on the ao486 core. I'm very much interested to know if this game is playable.

I don't know this game, do you have a link?

I found one, but if it is this one, it is much too recent to work on an i486 core

Released 2012 for Windows, I doubt we will see it running on MiSTer.

There is a DOS/486 version as well.

CRT SCR$ Project - building a collection of high-quality photos of CRT displays
CRT ART Books - retro-gaming books with authentic CRT photos

Hello @lomdar67,

I've just tried RCR486 under AO486 (2020-05-10 build) and it doesn't work (unless I did something wrong but I do not think so).

The error message returned by the game is :

Co-processor required
Run this game on a 486 DX or newer.

There is a README.TXT file with the DOS game saying among other things, this, which corroborate the error message (Co-Pro absent) I got:

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
===================

Requires a 486 DX PC or higher. with 4MB of RAM and 3.7MB of free Hard Disk space.
A Pentium is recommended.

It will run on a 386 (slowly), provided a 387 co-processor is present.
For more information, read the "PERFORMANCE" section.

Hope this will help you

Hello kathleen,

thanks a lot for the information.

Would have been so much fun playing it on the MiSTer. Maybe I'll try DosBox...

you probably need an svga display which is not available on the core in addition to the lack of power

but the core is being improved !! ..
