Thanks! But I can't get the MiSTer to load a random image on startup. And for me the menu.jpg or menu.png has to be in the root for some reason to work at all. So I can get a custom image to work. Just not the random images on start-up part.

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
So todays main mister update brought wallpapers tied to alternate ini files.
Folder named wallpapers with images will now cycle when MiSTer.ini is active. folder named wallpapers_alt_1 with images in it will cycle when MiSTer_alt_1.ini is active.
Same for *_alt_2 and *_alt_3 aswell. Remove menu.png from root after making these changes.

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
Looks like they added alt wallpaper support to go along with alt ini support. Will be nice to be able to have a 4:3 wallpaper on CRT, and automatically switch to 16:9 when flipping to the HDMI ini.

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
Him... I recently connected my MiSTer to a PVM and the F1 functionality doesn't work, nor does placing an image titled menu.jpg/png in media/fat anyone else having this issue?
Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
You need to change your MiSTer.ini and enable a couple of things for backgrounds to work over analog video.
Code: Select all
[menu]
vga_scaler=1
fb_terminal=1
video_mode=512,38,66,64,224,12,20,6,10689

You're absolutely right. My mistake. The correct name for the wallpaper file is "menu.jpg" or png.ChrisUnionNJ wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 5:30 pmNope I tried renaming it to back.jpg no go there then I tried menu.jpg that worksAmigoMexicano wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 11:42 pmJust copy to SD path /media/fat/ with the name "back.jpg" (or png). Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
I used to have one of the default backgrounds, but after an update a few months back, it vanished.
I created a custom background, named it menu.jpg, copied it to the root folder, but I still get static even after spamming the F1 button. Is there anything that could be interfering with this? I mostly use my MiSTer on a CRT, but I'm testing on a modern TV to make sure.
Not sure if it's because of some color limitation, but this is the background I'm trying to load. (Feel free to use it, hopefully I'll be able to soon.)

I had exactly the same issue.Reverend Crush wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 11:56 pm I used to have one of the default backgrounds, but after an update a few months back, it vanished.

For me the problem was that I had this settings in my MiSter.ini:
fb_terminal=0
Setting it back to the default value
fb_terminal=1
fixed the background issue and now pressing F1 correctly cycles through the images in the wallpapers folder.

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
I'm glad this thread addressed WHY I can toggle via menu (F1) to cycle through all the terrific backgrounds. I do hope this feature is implemented soon.
Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
I try to put a wallpaper without success, i rename my file menu.jpg, i tried to put in the root of sd and in a wallpapers dir. I can press F1 as much as i want and reboot it doesn't do anything. I check my config file and it's nothing fancy, 1920x1080 and fb_terminal=1
I think i remap the F1 button. How to delete the keyboard mapping ? I delete the config folder but it doesn't seems to work with keyboard mapping.

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
What would that even do? Show when you load the core, until you load your ROM?
I've kind of done similar by picking games that have nice/iconic attract modes set as boot.rom for most cores. SMB3 for NES, SMW for SNES, Pokemon Yellow for GB, etc.

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
Well it's not the F1 mapping, after remove the config files F1 just give the configuration menu, exactly like F2, but still no way to change the background. I guess i must miss something. Am i crazy ?
Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
You can only have a custom wallpaper on the mister main menu. Core menus don't have wallpapers.
You know you're doing the right thing with F1 on the main menu if it cycles through the built in backgrounds before getting to your menu.jpg, which should be located on (windows - root of the sdcard, Linux/Mac - /media/fat/menu.png)

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
Yeah pretty much. Would be nice to be able to create box art wallpaper for each system.Sigismond0 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 4:13 pm What would that even do? Show when you load the core, until you load your ROM?
Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
Yes i know that i cannot have it with core, thing is i if i press F1 i just have the main menu that appear, same if i press F2, and i don't see any wallpaper appearing, even if i reboot. I have a menu.jpg on the root of the sd card at the good resolution. I just don't understand why it's not working.Gymcrash wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 8:31 pm You can only have a custom wallpaper on the mister main menu. Core menus don't have wallpapers.

Re: MiSTer Wallpapers
So i finally understand where the problem come from, i think it's a bug of Mister. I change my sd card for something bigger so i made a clean new install. Problem was the same, with F1 i just got the menu and it changed no wallpaper.
I use a logictech keyboard + touchpad bluetooth combo, si i tried with a usb keyboard and it finally worked, F1 change the wallpaper.
