PGM / Taito F3 / Psikyo SH2 / Toaplan v1 v2 / Irem M72 M92

Unread post by PikWik »

really looking forward to these possible cores, and they all seem like perfect candidates for DEVs to sink their teeth into.
these boards are pipe dream purchases and for arcade enthusiasts to purchase/maintain. so wildly expensive.
having them repro'd in FPGA will be very very appreciated

I agree completely.
The PGM is suppose to be one of the next big Jotego's core. Toaplan v1 is "work in progress".
The other i don't know.

I'm really hoping Toaplan V2 gets a core in the near future. Having APB, Batsugun and Battle Garegga+Bakraid would be fantastic.

That's a lot... And it will be a while. But meanwhile Sega System 18 work has started.

This makes me wonder if an FPGA dev could work on just recreating single chips instead of a whole core, which is a lot more work. You'd need ways to test if that chip is working correctly.

yes, that does sound like a good idea.
im sure it would help if we could find a way to "confirm" chips with some kind of instruction/stress test

Seibu SPI

Graphics : Custom Seibu
Sound CPU : Z80AP @ 8 MHz

ah nice, i was going to mention the Seibu board, but thought it was out of reach of current DEV. or at least, would require a ton of work.
Jotego does great work tho, im sure when he gets to it, it will be done right!

PGM is actually very important to have a core for because shmuppers are en masse vandalizing KoV cartridges for conversions. I'm all for converting low quality games but KoV is important in ways that even classics like Ketsui and DOJ can't approach. It isn't simply a great bmup, it's the single most popular arcade game in the world and the spike in cartridge price because of conversions is terrible.

There are still some conversions coming out of China, but you can build these from scratch using brand new pcbs. The advantage being they are running at the correct voltage and not destroying old carts. I made the 3 Cave games myself and it wasn't too bad. If you have basic soldering skills and access to an eprom burner, you can build these for around $50 in parts.

Whoa, never knew about this. Limited to unencrypted games but still a solution to the conversion problem.

It does make me wonder about how much of a roadblock that asic encryption would prove to core development. It's very nasty and remains undefeated on real hardware from what I'm aware.

PGM and SH2... A dream for a shooter/Tetris fan! Good luck to any dev attempting this, and thanks for all the amazing cores over the years.
