How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
I've been changing my setup and I notice my bluetooth takes longer to be ready.
Now this could be OCD-ish but I remember it being faster before.
So whats a bad/normal/good boot time ?

Re: How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
After some experimentation:
* when I remove the WIFI-dongle its faster
* when I plug my BT-dongle in in USB5 instead of USB1 its significantly faster (5+ secs)
Can someone shed a light on this ?

Re: How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
I have a USB drive in it that can take a few seconds to be ready and it usually takes 15-20 seconds for networking to connect, but from power on to menu is only a couple seconds. It's fast enough that when I want to change games I just hit the reset button, the same as I would have on an old console.

Re: How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
Yeah I have mine on an independent power bar and by the time I've flopped back down it's good to go
Re: How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
From switching on at the power my times are:
0 seconds to see static
6 seconds until I see the mister menu
15 seconds until wifi becomes active
22 seconds until Bluetooth becomes active
0 seconds to see static
6 seconds until I see the mister menu
15 seconds until wifi becomes active
22 seconds until Bluetooth becomes active
Re: How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
Excellent post, I recorded mine to see how it holds up
This was when I noticed it being slow:
- 00 seconds to see static
- 06 seconds until I see the mister menu
- 31 seconds until Bluetooth becomes active
- 120+ seconds until wifi becomes active
- 00 seconds to see static
- 06 seconds until I see the mister menu
- 15 seconds until wifi becomes active
- 19 seconds until Bluetooth becomes active
- 00 seconds to see static
- 06 seconds until I see the mister menu
- 10 seconds until Bluetooth becomes active
Re: How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
For me it is, after power-on:
1 second before static
8 seconds before MiSTer menu
No wifi or BT installed, fitted with an analogue IO board, 128GB memory and booting from an SD card.

Nice paul try the latest update, you could shave off another second
It seems to also differ based on what version of MiSTer/Linux you are running.
But I updated yesterday and its even faster now:
This is without the WIFI-dongle (consistent):
00 seconds to see static
07 seconds until I see the mister menu with blueooth ready
Wow, I love this project

Re: How long does it take for your MiSTer to be operational?
Mine takes 23 seconds from power on to connect to my CIFS shares via ethernet.

You could rename /etc/init.d/S45bluetooth to /etc/init.d/S35bluetooth.
This way bleutooth starts before networking/wifi and you don't have to wait for it.
They seem to finish around 12s here, but I didnt clock it.
