1536x2048 Screen Custom Video Mode Help?

Unread post by deBaer »

Hi,

I'm very happy with MiSTer on my iPad 3 screen, I even made two videos about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYoftLHajak and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmAfQi9keag

But the 9.7" is a bit big for the portable setup I'm planning to build. So I bought this display: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000049907830.html

It's 7.9" with the same number of pixels, but sadly, it's a portrait display, when I use the normal video mode 13, it looks like this:

I tried making a custom video mode, but somehow, I didn't succeed. I really don't understand all the numbers in the modeline, and the calculator on https://morf77.pythonanywhere.com/ar just throws an error 500 when I try using it. But will it even be possible to rotate 4:3 cores during scaling for HDMI, or would I just get a little picture with huge letter boxes?

I'd appreciate any tips!

Cheers

I'm in the same situation than you.

I bought the same screen and I didn't realize that the resolution was 1536x2048 instead of 2048x1536.

I don't know if someone could help us, maybe there is some rotate option, which affects the menu and the cores.

It would be like activating the permanent rotate mode, I don't know.

Right now rotation is a per-core thing that many vertical arcade and a few handheld cores support. The system-wide option only rotates the OSD, not the games themselves. There's no real way to make good use of portrait displays right now outside of tate games.
