Just a quick update: I got the Meanwell PSU and it fits like a dream like it should. 4 amps of power to handle more inputs like an external HDD, and all is working again like a champ! I use the power button on the Blisster board to power the MiSTer on/off with zero/no power button in the cable connection between the Blisster and the wall outlet.

In reading seastalker's good news, I just had a thought about OP's problem. I wonder if twinkles76 plugged the card into the SD slot on the I/O board? If they have a digital board, that would cover the observed symptoms: card was plugged into wrong slot, Mister wouldn't boot. OP took everything apart and fussed around with JTAG, and then plugged the card into the correct slot after rebuilding, so it started working.
