Adaptive Scanlines

Unread post by Juri »

hi i was thinking about a crt monitor,
with a rotated monitor for games like Galaga shouldn't scan lines follow the rotation?
i mean scanlines should be displayed vertically, not horizontally right?
i always use adaptive scanline because i like them so much, but i noticed in games like galaga scanlines are still horizontal.
so i decided to create a preset named:
Bright and Smooth_TATE.ini (inside preset folder)

Code: Select all

hfilter=Adaptive_Filters/Test/Scan_Dk_Thick_50_Br_GS.txt
vfilter=Upscaling - Recommended/GS_Sharpness_050.txt
sfilter=off
gamma=Pure_gamma/gamma_113.txt
mask=TEST/Monochrome Block.txt
maskmode=1x

Yes, in rotated monitors scanlines should be vertical. But there is a catch somewhat: scanlines are not that visible really on an arcade monitor :)

Yes, I mentioned this before. Both the scan lines and the shadow masks should rotate with the orientation of the core IMO. This way the defaults you set for these filters in the ini file would work correctly as well.

Apart from this, there also still isn't a simple way to set integer horizontal scaling, while keeping the correct aspect-ratio, to make your vertical scan lines look clean.

EDIT: Most of the arcade cores haven't been updated to use adaptive scan lines, BTW. So if you do select them, they won't look correct.
