Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
I manage to make it work this time. I did unpack two chd games (the two first panzer dragoon) and they don't boot. So i remember seeing a video with duke nukem 3d, so i try this one and it works.
Fun to have a saturn game booting for the first time on my mister, especially considering it was one of the very few games i own for my saturn back in the day.
I am in direct video also.

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
Anyone got Out Run to work yet. I tried the new core with EU bios, US bios and Japan bios. It gets to the loading screen and then stops.

Guys,
Just out of curiosity. Did you manage to run Radiant Silvegun? In my case the game freezes up after few seconds.
I do love this core. It's simply mazing!!!

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
Good evening all,
Just tested and Radiant Silvergun runs fine on my end (at least up to stage 2, where I'm getting destroyed using the awful, mushy Saturn dpad).
I should note I have a dual SDRAM setup, running the Saturn specific unstable framework... ...with JP 1.01 bios (I think ).

Good evening to you and many thanks for testing!
Yes I have used the same bios but to no avail. I have a single SDRAM setup so perhaps the dual SDRAM does the trick!
Thanks again!

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
I just wanted to debunk the idea that the core doesn't work at all with Antonio Villena Mister and ram, I have a quad cell 128 ram stick and it does work with some game.
It just requires multiple reset to get some games starting. I managed to play Duke Nukem, Virtua Cop 2, Herc's Adventures, Fifa 97, Daytona USA.
I got 2 games that should work which don't, Rayman (USA and EU) and Alien Trilogy (US and EU). They both crash on the first fmw. So the core does run currently with Antonio Villena Mister and ram even if it's not perfect.
And also for people shitting on his work, I will kindly remind them doing a lot of customisation for a product is pretty nice. It means that he puts a lot of love and efforts in his products. His Misters are clearly not a copy paste from anywhere and his soldering work is top notch!

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
And yet there is no need for a 4 chip Ram design. Its is cheaper to produce but offers nothing over the standard design and isnt as compatible with the saturn core currently.

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
People fail to mention WHY these 4 chip designs are not as compatible as the 2 chip deisgns. As I understand it the timings are extremely tight on some cores such as the Saturn and the 4 chip designs can´t reach these higher timings. The 2 chip design is the standard design for a reason.
Check out my MiSTer scripts on Github.
Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
I have a two chip 128 MB RAM design with Villena's MiSTer Slim and I'm having a lot of issues loading games. Doing several resets doesn't fix the problem. Right now I'm just waiting for the core to be more stable because I think it's just a matter of time for the core to start working properly.

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
Yes you need one for each region, unless you have a "region-free" Saturn bios available (easy to find).
My recommendation would be to test this core release with an original bios, as there are reports that some hacked bioses may show strange behaviors on their own..
Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
That, or possibly the need for double dram boards at this point in time
The core definitely isn't optimized for now

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
The bios that works best currently for me is this one Bios Saturn 1.01a (U).bin

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
No, that's a bad thing. Fragmenting the user base is stupid. Everybody should have the same setup, that simplifies everything for everyone.
Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
I'm just curious about how the MiSTer products from Villena are fragmenting the user base. I can tell every core officially supported by the MiSTer project is working on his devices. So... Where is the fragmentation here?

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
In Hardware. The DB9 on the IO board fragments the HW base. Its a minor thing though
Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
That's not a fragmentation as one can buy an adapter for that. In fact, I have the MT32-pi from its original creator hooked in my system without any problem.FPGA64 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 6:17 pmIn Hardware. The DB9 on the IO board fragments the HW base. Its a minor thing though
IMHO the fragmentation would occurred if I only could use Villena's MT32-pi device or if I needed a build of any core specifically for Villena's hardware. And it's not the case.

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
You cant to my knowledge attach the dual Snac to a standard IO port though only via the DB9.kerunaru wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 6:32 pmThat's not a fragmentation as one can buy an adapter for that. In fact, I have the MT32-pi from its original creator hooked in my system without any problem.

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development
Radiant Silvergun should run more or less properly, that is far from perfect but still usable even during longer sessions (you can find user reports saying just that if you search this forum)
The freezing would make me think of a hardware issue, possibly with SDRAM, but since the Saturn HW is currently summarily replicated anything goes.
Check if your SDRAM cards are exactly the same, or possibly bought separately, and if they've been tested under stress
Other than that, I'm not sure if there are multiple versions of that game floating around, that might be a point to explore too.
