Be Aware of the Edimax EW-7811Un Wi-Fi Dongle
Yesterday, I turned on my MiSTer FPGA just to find out that i didn't. Originally, I linked it to the Y cable that I using for the USB Hub since not using worked, but then I bought a pair of Y cables, but neither of them worked. So I started playing around a bit.
-I removed the power switch out of the equation and when I plugged the FPGA with Y cable, it worked...
-But it stopped working when I plugged the other end in hub
-I unplugged the bluetooth and Wi-Fi dongle, then everything worked
-I replugged the bluetooth dongle, still worked
-I replugged the Wi-Fi dongle, everything stopped working
-I plugged that Wi-Fi dongle into my PC, it worked, but when I unplugged it, it was burning hot!
Clearly the power supply of the DE10-NANO was protecting my hardware from this junk. The Wi-Fi dongle is a Edimax EW-7811Un 150Mbps 11n Wi-Fi USB Adapter Nano Size, it was on the recommendation list on the MiSTer Github, but guess I got lemon because I bought it on January 14th of this year! Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know.

YMMV, however it could be that you need to upgrade your PSU? I had a similar issue with my Asus WiFi dongle. I got a new PSU (4a) and everything just works fine now.

But it had no issues before it hit 6 months using the same PSU. Also, it doesn't explain why the thin got piping hot after being plugged in my PC for 2 minutes. The Low-Res Gamer wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 1:16 am YMMV, however it could be that you need to upgrade your PSU? World of cheap Chinese electronics, good batches & bad batches due to 0 quality control.
Re: Be Aware of the Edimax EW-7811Un Wi-Fi Dongle
I have problem with 7822ULC, when I connect hub with keyboard dongle, 8bitdo dongle and wifi the power is cutted off after 5-10s - i can see this since I have hub with LED indicators on each USB port. Same situation on 2A or 4A PSU. But found they only way to make all to work is to stick between OTG cable and USB Hub a little USB tool that I used before to measure current/voltage. So without this thing there is no way this sets of dongles to work, but when I use wired power switch for Mister - again power is cut after - 5-10 sec.

My hub have option to external power, but even with power adapter connected I had problems. But IDK what this USB power meter do to this that all devices work ok...
