Hi@all
I released the new Stable tty2oled FW Version 221030.
Run "The Updater" to get available Script and INI Updates and the latest Display FW.

Changes:
  • Modfied the Screensaver "Stars" for more "fading"
  • Changed Picture-Array Memory allocation from "malloc" to static.
NOTE, if you activate both animated Screensavers (Stars & Toast), the one which is used after a new Corepicture will be randomly chosen.

I have tested the FW with the 8266 and it was working fine for me.

If you run "testing" on your system, remove the line

Code: Select all

TTY2OLED_FW_TESTING="yes"
from your tty2oled-user.ini file before you run "The Updater".

Report Problems here.

Just tried the new update, the toasters screensaver looks really great! One of the classics.

Look at this programmable USB stick, with a tiny color screen. Might make a nice tty2usbstick version.

This one also looks interesting, with a much higher resolution display: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/1005004496543314.html

The latest MiSTer updates have added mgl files to virtually separate some of the cores, giving them their own entries, settings and game folders. For instance the 2600 and 7800, Game Gear and Master System.

I noticed TTY2OLED already detects these virtual cores and shows the correct logo, that is fantastic. Not yet for the Game Boy Color, Mega Duck and WonderSwan color. I suppose that is just a matter of adding the logos for those?

As long as the MiSTer system writes the right value into the /tmp/CORENAME file the Second Screen Systems can show a logo as long as a matching picture exists.
It doesn‘t matter if this is done by a core directly, by a mgl file or manual manipulation by a shell script.

We use this functionality for showing the update logo or a logo for ScummVM.

Does anyone sell a pre-made ESP32 version that's plug-and-play?

In addition to what @venice wrote: If you're going to write and share your own mgl files, please have a look at our tty* corename and translation table where you'll find all system and arcade cores with their corresponding name (= setname).

I could order the screen and print a case (PLA / black). Please be aware that I will ship from Germany. Depending on your location shipping cost can be quite high.

Right, this was more what I was asking about. I'm on the east coast in the US, not sure what shipping would look like.

As posted above, I can offer a plug-and-play solution including case and display. Price is 55 € plus shipping. Cheapest shipping option (insured) I could find is 26 €.

Hey all - been a mister owner for a bit and picked up a tty2oled from Antonio Villena was excited to try it but when I configure update all and include the tty2oled option, update all seems to download and simultaneity remove the setup script for tty2oled. It tried this 3 times and errors out and it does it every time I run update all, so I cant get tty2oled to run without the script.

Everything is up to date. I thought it might be my mister and considered a full reinstall, but a friends mister (also up to date) seems to behave in exactly the same way.

I also tried going to the tty2oled github and copying over the install script (update_tty2oled.sh) but I cant get that to run (bat interpeter issue)

Any idea whats happening with update_all or the script, or what I could be doing wrong here? I'm keen to get using my new tty2oled!

Cheers,

Velcro

Could you post or screenshot the error messages?
And let us know which commands you use to install the tty2oled script.

Strange issue and shouldn't happen. We'll have a try on this today. Maybe this is a bug in update_all (but unlikely).
But keep in mind that even if update_all would work for you, it only downloads a recent version of update_tty2oled.sh but doesn't execute it. You'll have to run update_tty2oled.sh after update_all.sh manually. Or give my general purpose update script for tty2xxx displays a try, which is updating all available tty2* display setups and is running update_all.sh afterwards.

I also tried going to the tty2oled github and copying over the install script (update_tty2oled.sh) but I cant get that to run (bat interpeter issue)
And this is the really weird part, but sounds like you are downloading it the wrong way...

In work but I'll grab a screenshot later.

I wasn't sure if the tyy2xxx would work for my situation but I'll try that too.

Yeah I'm aware that I have to run the update_tty2oled script as well, the problem is that it's not there. For some reason update all downloads it and removes it each time (verified on another mister)

As for moving over the script form the GitHub I'm going copy raw > notepad++ > save as an sh file under the same name > ssh it over to the scripts folder. Is this a permission issue on the file? Or perhaps some of the symbols were altered in the copy process?(Shouldn't really happy from a raw copy to notepad++ though)

Hope that context helps!

Actually I have a screenshot from update all downloading and removing the file from when I was getting someone else to help verify it wasn't just my mister.

I have found and fixed the bug @Velcropants stumbled on. update_all did all right but in the repository of tty2oled the file tty2oleddb.json was outdated and therefore update_all refused to download update_tty2oled.sh because of the wrong checksum(s).

I leave an image for the gangwars since it gives me the feeling that the one there has the panther's head cut off, if you want, put it as an alternative

and also an alternative for super champion baseball this time simple since the one that is there is perfect

Jep, this made it as an alternative :) Thanks!
You were right regarding Gang Wars, I took the already existing Marquee from tty2rpi as template, which was wrongly cutted. But I don't like both versions, yours and mine...both are meeeh so I searched and found a better Marquee/template, did some pixelpaint on it and am sure, that this new version is making everyone happy!?

As always highly appreciated! But you are too late for Xain'd Sleena which I already did this morning ;) Your's okay-ish, but the dark background has a hard cut / no transition imho.
Solar Warrior is very nice and made it to the repo. Do you have a link for it's source or announcement? Looks like I have missed that core. Not necessary, it's the US version of Xain'd Sleena

I'm having trouble rotate my ttyoled screen. It's a ESP8266.
no matter if i use yes or no in the user.ini it doesn't affect anything although other changes like screensaver registers it correctly.
Any clue what it could be?
