SonSon Capcom Arcade Core

Unread post by Alkadian »

Thanks @MikeS1 for this new core! I do love this game!

I have downloaded manually .rbf, .mra and the associated rom as the update_all script didn't, at least in my case.

Just out of curiosity, has somebody else experienced the same behaviour?

Thanks again for this new fantastic core!

Same here, update-all didn't pick it up, manually copied everything over including game rom then it showed up and booted.

Same here. I noticed that the MISTer FPGA Wiki->Arcades does not list it but MISTer FPGA Repositories does.

Same here.

I have opened an issue because with direct video=1 , the core is out of sync on 15khz CRT

I have noticed that the release folder in the Sonson repository is spelled with a capital R (Releases) instead of a lower case letter (releases). Can this be a reason why the core's filed do not get picked up by the Distribution?

MikeS11 will want to make the R in "Releases" lower case for the script to pick it up.

I was surprised just how addictive this little game was, Ive had it on many Capcom compilations over the years, but playing the Mister core with no perceptible lag gives the game the 'one more go factor.

Absolutely! Also, I can definitely state that Mister is the the coolest thing I have ever owened! For me every core that gets developed/released brings back the same joy and enthusiasm I was used to feel while holding a brand new game for my beloved C64. Fond memories. Full stop.

Update_all just removed SonSon from my system, so I think the capital R in releases might have re-manifested.

I just did some tests. Update_all did not remove SonSon from my system. However, after removing manually the .rbf and .mra I have had to re-install all the files again as Update_all did not pick it up.

Re: SonSon Capcom Arcade Core

I just ran an update again, and it I no longer have a SonSon mra or rbf. I do still have the ROM. Update_all very explicitly removed both the mra and the rbf.

Here's where it added SonSon:

Code: Select all

Downloading 11 files:
_Arcade/SonSon.mra
_Arcade/cores/DonkeyKong3_20221111.rbf
_Arcade/cores/Sonson_20221108.rbf
And then indexed it:

Code: Select all

Organizing 1 MRAs.

MRA Core Year Manufactu. Category
################################################################################
SonSon.mra Sonson 1984 Capcom Platform
################################################################################
And then removed it again, about a day later:

Code: Select all

Removing /media/fat/cifs/games/GAMEBOY/Game Boy Color.mgl
Removing /media/fat/cifs/games/ATARI7800/Atari 2600.mgl
Removing /media/fat/cifs/games/WonderSwan/WonderSwan Color.mgl
Removing /media/fat/cifs/games/GAMEBOY/Mega Duck.mgl
Removing /media/fat/cifs/games/SMS/Game Gear.mgl
Removing /media/fat/cifs/games/Coleco/SG-1000.mgl
Removing /media/fat/_Arcade/SonSon.mra
Removing /media/fat/_Arcade/cores/Sonson_20221108.rbf
And despite repeated attempts, update_all is not downloading either SonSon.mra or Sonson_20221108.rbf.

It is odd indeed. I wouldn't know why it is behaving like that. I have just tried a few times again and in my case the files don't get removed after running Update_all. But like yourself it doesn't download the files either if I remove them manually.

I initially downloaded the rbf, mra and zip manually. Since then I updated my MISTer and the files did not disappear. Just to double check I just ran update all and SonSon is still there. I did not try to remove the files before running the script like Alkadian did. The fact that Alkadian removed the files before running the script reminds me of a strange problem which happens (or used to happen) randomly to some users where the script does not download the rbf and mra. This happened only with Jotego cores and only to a few users. It happened to me twice and one time I did not manually download the files, waiting to see if the script would download them at some point which it did some days later.

Edit: The problem I mentioned happened only for the mra, the rbf was downloaded.

I've released a new update that includes the following:
- Fixed button swap bug
- Added 55.4Hz video timing
- Added H/V Position Adjustments
- Fixed Hsync length for compatibility on some monitors

Im hoping it fixes issues with the update all not picking it up now.

No dice here. I'm thinking it somehow got stuck back under "Releases" instead of "releases", like when it wasn't working the first time.

It is working now, may be the DB was not updated yet when you tried.
It downloaded the rbf, mra and zip, mra and zip -> No Change and rbf -> Updated.
Nothing deleted.

I can confirm that it is working fine in my case. I would suggest to remove manually both the .rbf and .mra and let the Update_all to re-download all the files for you.

Thanks @MikeS for the latest release!

Thanks for the job on this core, you made me discover this nice game !

Is there a possibility to increase maximum "Analog Video V-Pos" to adapt to some screen ?

Great core, and just the way I remember it!
Question: can anybody get the PAUSE functionality to work? It doesn't seem to pause the game (or do anything discernable) after mapping it and pressing the button...
Thx
