Core MSX1 by Fabio Belavenuto ported to MiSTer by Yo_Me and Benitoss

Hi Folks !

Yo_Me, Benitoss and rampa069 have done it again. Finally we already have the first Public Beta version available in MiSTer.


They are working to support VHD files, so at the moment this version needs a dedicated microSD, formatted in Fat16
The announcement of the core was made from RetroWiki (in Spanish):http://www.retrowiki.es/viewtopic.php?f=106&t=200035944
It will be available soon for MiST, MiSTica and SiDi.

Just drag the core into the MiSTer and make sure the external SD contains a fs fat16 with Nextor.

This is MSX (1) the first MSX generation.
The core already You know it's MSX2 and higher.

Many games and software for MSX1 don't work fine on the MSX2. Are different computers. Mostly MSX1 titles will work, but not all.
The main difference between both MSX is the VDP, system ROMS,etc...

Sure. Just replace the Nextor files and give it a try.

Get a workable or a preexistent MSX image, then modify with the new files. Rename .img to .vhd and put into the MiSTer, directory MSX1
Remember, must be FAT16, this is MSX1.

Hi Ron, I ended with the same issue, no FS recognized. I used an external SD card formatted in Fat16 and placed all the relevant files in it, but I'm confused because when I try to load the .VHD it goes to the internal (primary) SD card. Does this mean that the primary SD card needs to be formatted in FAT16 in order to have the MSX1 core working ? Or is there any way to redirect to the secondary SD card ?

If you use external SD you cannot use VHD and vice versa. The most comfortable is a .VHD image since you copy it to the internal SD of the MiSTer and it is more comfortable, especially for those who do not have I / O Board in their MiSTer.

The core will use the secondary SD if there is no vhd loaded, no boot.vhd or msx1.vhd called in the games / msx1 directory

A .VHD file is nothing more than a renamed .img image. You can get the image from other FPGAs, from other MSX cores, that image must be formatted as FAT16 and must contain the directory MSX1FPGA

Following those instructions:
Format an SD Card in FAT16 (max 4GB), unzip the file 'msx1_sd_files.zip' in the root directory from SD Card. Get files from Fabio's Git.
Then replace the required Nextor driver files supplied above
