I've seen mention of this script...
Is it worth adding - I'm wary of cluttering my MiSTer with BETAs and varies forks that might just die off in the short term.
Thanks!

What is this thing? Is it to be able to use controllers without enough buttons to define an Insert Coin button? If this the case just getting a different controller would be the sane solution.
Edit: Found what it is, wrong speculation. Anything which modifies Main MISTer should be banned.
Yeah, I read it changes the "MAIN", but saw you can always drop the original back on?
Sounds messy.
Are they gonna keep the custom "main" up to date with the official one, and is it nesessary in the first place just to have the occasional extra arcade core that sits outside the realms of Update_all? Ones that could be behind a Patreon wall even after that?
BTW, i'm all for supporting devs, but also keeping MiSter clutter free and "all-in-one".
If you want the extra arcades you can always do it manually but you will have to figure out to do the setup. If they are behind a pay wall you will have to pay.
What exactly does this do? Is it just trying to hide the fact you are running on something that isn't the original board?
Insert Coin script organizes MRA into folders and also has a Main build with it that hides the progress bar. You can however bring back the progress bar by adding a line in mister.ini file.
There is already arcade organizer that organizes the MRAs already that is maintained by me.

Thanks - I'm already using yours then.
Don’t quote me but I’m sure you can turn off the Main fork download.
I’m sure I added this at some point and it was okay. Another way of sorting arcades. Think talk of “banning” anything open source is a bit much.
Not anything, anything which messes with MISTer Main and such.
Its more of a hassle because you can end up with a MiSTer main that is stale, or have the official download overwrite it each time, or have to avoid updating...
If it's only needed to hide a progress bar, it hardly seems worth the trouble.
Doe a lot more than that! - It updates to the latest PSX and Saturn cores (and others) , and I really like how it adds all neogeo roms near the main page. (And downloads them for you!).
Also seems to download a LOT of extra arcade roms, including some fun "mods" - such as a roster of nine different characters for final fight, and a cool vector themed pacman
I think it could be worthwhile for some people. If the github page had a description of what it actually does that would help folks determine for themselves.
The funkycochise the creator of this script, has a forum thread over on neo-arcadia-com:
It would have been real mean to post , is more appropriate.
This is what happens when using a script which messes up with MISTer Main, has barely any information on what it does and more importantly does not say how to revert to an official MISTer.
This is what I do when I play with my custom builds and want to restore:
1) SFTP into MiSTer
2) rename "MiSTer" (main file) nto MiSTer_old
3) Transfer a fresh official MiSTer from the PC
If that fails you can take out the micro SD card and make changes on your PC.
While you are at it, also male a backup of your other SD card contents so you can recreate cards from scratch.
Here’s what I’m going to do to try to get my MiSTer back to the way it was before, please let me know if I’ve missed anything:
Anything else?
Personally I would backup all the files in /media/fat/saves, and anything that you may have done a lot of configuration on like your update_all settings. Get them off of the microSD card to be sure.
Otherwise, I think your steps will work.
Hi friend. Can you elaborate on what the main file is? I stumbled on this thread because I was looking to remove the script myself and found very limited info on it.
Thanks
Its at
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_Mi ... r/releases
It will need to be renamed MiSTer when transferred
