JT Friday Update February 24th 2023

Unread post by jca »

All Jotego cores updated:
Nothing new, he just removed the timestamp from the core names for whatever reason.

I also got 2 new roms. I do know what they are and if they are related to Jotego cores.
SECTION: arcade_roms_db

Downloading 2 files:
games/mame/drtoppel.zip
games/mame/tnzs.zip

But I also got a strange error at the end of the update:
/media/fat/Scripts# Downloading 2 files:
-bash: Downloading: command not found
/media/fat/Scripts# games/mame/drtoppel.zip
-bash: games/mame/drtoppel.zip: No such file or directory
/media/fat/Scripts# games/mame/tnzs.zip
-bash: games/mame/tnzs.zip: No such file or directory
/media/fat/Scripts#

Thanks.
I do not see any mra for Thats the New Zealand Story.

Regarding the error I got I suspect it is related to the Arcade Organizer:
I re-ran update all and got:
/media/fat/Scripts# Downloading Mister Arcade Descriptions database
-bash: Downloading: command not found
/media/fat/Scripts# Couldn't download https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Torya ... on.zip.md5 : Network Problem

I had to kill the script to go back to the regular prompt.
I guess Arcade Organizer is being updated. I will wait and see later if Arcade Organizer is working.

I still wonder what these 2 roms are related as I don't see any new mra. Only Exed Exes, Vulgus (set 1) and the alternatives Mach-9 (bootleg of Vulgus), Vulgus (Japanx) have been updated and have nothing to do with these 2 zips.

I suspect they are related to some JT Beta: the update all script has the real bad habit of downloading the Beta cores, the associated rom but not the mras. I wish it did not do that, only for those wanting to test the Betas. What a waste of my time!!!!!

As I already wasted my time I decided to waste some more:
https://github.com/jotego/jtbin/tree/ma ... i/releases
2 new beta roms for jtkiwi.

Wasting some more time:
The updates for Exed Exes and Vulgus are only for the rotation item in the mras and used by the Arcade Organizer.
I re-ran the script and no more error:
Arcade Organizer was being updated, now Exed Exes and Vulgus should show up with the proper orientation in the Organized folder.
6 posts for a do not much JTFriday update.

FIGURED ! For "BLACK SCREEN " , "BAD HARDWARE" , etc => Arcades , cores -> erase rest of "jtwiki.......rbf" ones , let there only the latest one "jtkiwi.rbf" from " jtfriday_mister_230224" , who is located in folder "kiwi" , "releases"

  • this error comes from the "arcade" "cores" folder ... there should exist only "jtkiwi.rbf" . rest of "jtkiwi......." names should be erased from SD card and recycle bin too

Previously I said:
"The updates for Exed Exes and Vulgus are only for the rotation item in the mras and used by the Arcade Organizer."
This is not true. Arcade Organizer uses a "handmade" database for this purpose for 2 reasons: it would take forever for the script to parse all the mras and there is a lot of "garbage" in the mras.

In the last few days there has been a bunch of updates for non Jotego cores.
I ran an update yesterday without any problems.

Today I ran another update as there were a few cores updates published later on yesterday and today:
AcornElectron_20230224.rbf
Lynx48_20230225.rbf
SGB_20230226.rbf

There were also a few old arcade updates which as usual are never announced on the forum:
Edit: I ran update all script to check if anything was broken after the strange JT update, more arcades updates came and I now see that the announcement has been made on the forum. My apologies to @alanswx.
Lunar Lander.mra
Pleiads (Centuri).mra
Pleiads.mra
Berzerk_20230215.rbf
Blockade_20230226.rbf
CanyonBomber_20230226.rbf
Dominos_20230226.rbf
DonkeyKong3_20240226.rbf
DottoriKun_20230226.rbf
Frenzy_20230226.rbf
MissileCommand_20230226.rbf
Sonson_20230225.rbf

Note that the update for DonkeyKong3 is 1 year in the future. :D

When the script reached the Jotego part it went totally crazy:
It removed an incredible amount of alternatives.
It installed 407 files. Mainly alternatives, may be to replace the deleted ones but the list seems to be way longer.
It also installed jtcps1.rbf and jtcps2.rbf but as Jotego decided to remove the timestamp from the core names it is difficult to know what it is about.

In the Arcade ROM section it also delete and installed some roms which seems to be related to Jotego cores.

With today's update things are becoming messy:
I made a few tests and already found some problems.
1941:
There are 2 main mras
1941 Counter Attack (World 900227)
1941 Counter Attack -World 900227-
The second one should not be there as it looks like a typo. Moreover flip does not work in horizontal mode, not tested in vertical mode.
There are 4 alternatives:
1941 Counter Attack -World 900227- ***
1941 Counter Attack (Japan)
1941 Counter Attack (USA 900227) ***
1941 Counter Attack (World)
The 2 marked with *** have the same names as the 2 main ones and should not be there.
I did not try to test the flip.

Regarding the deleted ROMs. They seems to have been deleted because the mras have been deleted. I only checked for 2 at the moment:
dino.zip -> No more Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
mbombrd.zip -> No more Muscle Bomber Duo - Ultimate Team Battle

Thanks for the heads-up. I have just tried Puzzle Loop with my USB Ultimarc Spinner but it doesn't seem to work. Perhaps it is not fully implemented yet. In fact I couldn't see the spinner option in the menu. Could someone please confirm it? Thanks!

Check the DIP settings.
At the beginning of January Jotego started to post about spinners.
Here are some tweets from the oldest to the newest. Hope it helps.

Code: Select all

We’ll have spinner support for JT cores next Friday on #MiSTerFPGA

Puzzle Loop 2 played the right way.

Eco Fighters has an interesting story related to spinners. Apparently, the game was designed to be operated with one. The game checks for a signal that tells whether the cabinet features a spinner. The test menu shows a line for testing the spinner input: rolling. It looks like spinners are called "rolling switch" in Japanglish. But it looks like there were no spinner cabinets produced and all sales were for regular cabinets.

On FPGA, in order to provide that spinner-enable signal to the game, I have added a DIP switch option to the game. CPS2 games didn't have DIPs natively, so the DIP menu only shows this option.

The JTCPS2 core supports spinner control now on the MiSTer for Puzzle Loop 2 and Eco Fighters.

Spinner support added to Midnight Resistance and Heavy Barrel on #MiSTerFPGA Files will be updated on #JTFriday

Thanks I have missed that announcement. It is working like a charm. I have found the option under Service mode and then Operation. Very cool!

also some games CPS1/CPS2 have issues with the number of buttons.
For CPS1.5 I think it needs a new RBF not updated just MRAs were updated

I do not see any mra for Thats the New Zealand Story.

How did you not see that? Aren't you a patreon of JOTEGO? Are you using his betas without contributing for his work and still complaining?

If you were reading carefully my post you would understand, Why not read what is at the bottom of the post I made instead of spewing unfounded accusations.

I think it is important to say issues.
It could help JT Team to improve tests before to publish new files and also inform people who have the same issue.
