DIY Folder Organisation Clean Up Unwanted Cores?

Pleased to say I just got my MiSTer this week. Just gradually leaning my way but can I organise/edit folders with the sd card in windows to change folders around - ie create a sub-folder in say 'ARCADE' of Favourites or shooters etc? Can I do this for individual console cores too simply by cutting/pasting/copying etc or am I opening up problems?

Or is there a better way?

There are so many arcade cores, computers, consoles I will never use and I'd rather hide these ones to make things simpler and cleaner to navigate.

You can move/organise the unwanted cores (.rbf files) into directories, as long as they are within the media/fat/ space (I think). Eg I have /other/ directories within my media/fat/computer and /console dirs, where I shove all the lesser-used cores.

The problem is that the next time you run update_all, they will be redownloaded and reappear in the default dirs and OSD. To alleviate this it's possible to edit update_all ini file and mark the cores you're not interetsed in, so they won't be updated anymore.

Another thing to consider is to use wizzo's Favourites script and pick the cores/games you use most. They will appear in OSD in the main Menu (under "Utility").

Also, Arcade cores can be organised using Arcade Organiser in update_all.

You can use the filter system to download only the cores that you would like to have available. This is just a start, but I'm not sure how to do favorites. Hope this helps point you in the right direction

Add filters for Computer/Console cores, add names.txt for better/simpler naming, and accept that the Arcade folder will always be a mess, but use the favorites script to pull out the ones you actually play. Here’s an example of how I have my filter configured to only download and update specific cores:

I didn't really want to open a new thread for this.. it might seem like a really silly question.. so apologies up front.. regarding the organiser script as seen in the update all options.. is there a stand alone version that can be used without being online?
